Mobile Photography Awards Eighth Annual Awards – Results!

We’re delighted to reveal that the Mobile Photography Awards (MPA) 2018 Results have now been announced. As always the wealth of talent displayed across our screens is phenomenal. This year there has been more entries to this competition than ever before and the quality of submissions has been totally outstanding across all the categories.

Mobile Photography & Art – Portrait of an Artist – Celebration of the Year 2018

From 2013 to 2016 Carolyn Hall Young found the inspiration for her art in the people that surrounded her and in the Mobile art community. Confined mainly to her bed she found a way to manifest the creativity and art in her soul and thus, stay into our hearts and worlds forever. It has been already two years without her but we will never stop celebrating her life and all the love and joy she spread while she was on this earth.

With her work as an inspiration Seeing Through The Eyes Of… is a series of interviews and collaborations for Joanne Carter’s Portrait Of an Artist section of TheAppWhisperer.com that intends to inspire the community to do more collaborative works and it is also my personal way to thank Carolyn for her strength and exemplary love for life.

Forever missed.

Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 18 November 2018

I believe there’s now a universal dilemma we suffer, that feels like a personal problem. We all have so many friends, just look on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, they’re all there but yet so many of us wander ‘lonely as a cloud’ and feel disconnected from our species. I believe it’s important not to collect friends, like trophies but truly value the ones that enhance our lives, bring smiles to our faces and warmth to our hearts. We know that none of our relationships are fixed in perpetuity, letting people go, is as important as keeping them close. But when they leave us, as their lives end, it’s hard to keep the door ajar, so those we once cherished can walk back in. One dear friend, who has passed, used to phone me several times a week, the phone is not my first means of communication. I can’t hear well so it’s not without it’s issues but it was the best way for her to communicate, so I perserved and found using my bluetooth headphones and digital aids, connected to my phone, a great solution. Now she’s gone and I really want to talk to her and I can’t, I really want and need to talk to someone…, not too close… and this is a very modern day problem. So many of my friends communicate with their art, their self-expression is clearly evident in this weeks mobile photography and art showcase and I love them all for it. The answer to this universal dilemma lies in not blaming others, or the advent of technology but in taking action. The joy of the cadence of a friend’s speech and the excitement of a conversation about something unanticipated is something to be relished albeit deeply desired.

Mobile Photography & Art – Portrait of an Artist – Seeing Through The Eyes Of Jo Sullivan

We are delighted to bring to you the tenth in our brand new series of interviews within our Portrait of an Artist column entitled “Seeing through the eyes…”. This is a section that has been created by our wonderful Portrait of an Artist Editor, Ile Mont. Mont has been inspired by the life and works of Carolyn Hall Young, as so many of us have. Young was the main contributor to our Portrait of an Artist Flickr pool and filled it with portraits of so many wonderful people, not only of herself. It is for this reason that Mont wanted to create this section, to enable us to view the artists style through their own eyes. At the end of each interview, Mont will keep Young’s tradition alive, with a portrait of herself, seen through the eyes of the artist. In this case, you will see that at the end of this interview there is a portrait of Mont, seen through the eyes of Jo Sullivan, what a gift!

New Projects – Our New Form of Artistic Installation aka ‘The Quilt’ Is Ready!

We’re delighted to inform our readers that the quilt that so many of you contributed to, has now been completed. For those of you not aware of this project, it involved mobile artists contributing one image and each one was then carefully included within a large quilt to be displayed at the next gallery show or even Mobile Arts Festival. There has been a few obstacles along the way and we have overcome each one. This quilt was sewed together and finalised by none other than mobile artist, Lorenka Campos’ mother in law. We all owe her much gratitude. The quilt is now with Lorenka Campos, so if you would like to display it at your next event, please contact her for details.

I have also been reminded and I shouldn’t have needed to be however, “Linda Toki did the whole layout of the quilt and had it printed. She also spent days working on the catalog so I really think she deserves a shout out as the quilt would never have happened without her”. We all need to give huge thanks to Linda M. Toki – join me!!

We are delighted to present our 26th Portrait of an Artist Video Showcase. This is not only our final Portrait Of An Artist Showcase of 2017 but a truly celebration of Portrait and Self Portrait itself where inspiration, creativity, imagination and skill intertwine through delightful colours and shapes, that impress, provoke, excite, and motivate both, viewers and creators, to keep looking beyond, to keep looking for the inside, to try and find alternate selves for them and the others.

I want to personally thank you all for being a part of this valuable legacy of Mobile Photography and Art. Let’s keep on pushing it forward and making it great.
