New Projects – Our New Form of Artistic Installation aka ‘The Quilt’ Is Ready!
We’re delighted to inform our readers that the quilt that so many of you contributed to, has now been completed. For those of you not aware of this project, it involved mobile artists contributing one image and each one was then carefully included within a large quilt to be displayed at the next gallery show or even Mobile Arts Festival. For the past week Marguerite Khoury @artistunveiled, has been publishing three of her images each day to our Instagram feed and it’s been enchanting. I personally asked Khoury to take over our Instagram account for seven days because I know there are few visual pleasures as great as admiring Khoury’s imagery when she’s on song. The myriad of new material that greets me each Sunday morning in our Mobile Photography and Imagery Flickr group is always so full of hope and its a privilege to wake up to. This weeks Showcase is deeply and satisfyingly intelligent at its heart. It’s emotionally and intimately audacious but also compassionate, benevolent and warm. One of the many things I love about curating, producing and publishing our Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase is it offers me the facility to tap into these talented artists lives. Many of the artists that we profile each Sunday morning are extraordinarily prolific with their art and when viewing the showcase, each image doesn’t stand on its own, more so as together, context is all. The more you move among the pictures, shifting back and forrth, the more your sense of mobile photography and art deepens, expanding by the moment. I am not one to read lonely hearts ad’s per se, however I do love history and found myself pre Valentine’s wondering when the first lonely hearts ad may have been written. I think I found it, in 1695 a ‘gentleman about 30 years of age’ placed at least one of the first recorded lonely hearts ad’s and he was seeking ‘some good young gentlewoman that has a Fortune of 3000 l. or thereabout’. £3k is equal to around £260k ($340k) today.
