Well, it is envitable really, The New York Times has announced today that it has signed up to Apple’s new in-app subscibptiion rules, as did News Corp owner Rupert Murdoch, notably of course with The Daily. To read the news on your smartphone it will cost you $15 a month and up to $20 from a tablet computer. There will be a $35 package that allows you to buy full access to The New York Times per month on all your devices. Would you look at that screen grab, no sooner had we hit on The Daily this morning when we were met with the following subscription screen showing up. Seven days to go until D-Day for The Daily. The Digital Daily Launches
Yes folks, it’s finally happened The Daily has launched, Rupert Murdoch told a packed auditorium at the Guggenheim Museum in New York that he hoped it would be an ‘indispensable source of news’. The Daily will cost 99 cents (60 p) a week and will be sold exclusively via Apple’s iTunes Store. News Corp has hired over 100 journalists to write for it, this is what sets it apart. It will only be available in the US initially but is sure to be available throughout the rest of the world as soon as. The Daily iPad Newspaper Launch Event February 2nd, 2011
With the excitement building News Corporation and Apple have set the launch date for The Daily to February 2nd, 2011. As you can see from the invitation below, Rupert Murdoch will be there along with Apple’s Eddy Cue, he’s stepping in for Steve Jobs, as we know is on medical leave. The event will start at 11:00 am EST at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum at 1071 Fifth Avenue. The Daily will cost $0.99 per week, it’s going to be interesting how this one pans out and whether consumers are prepared to pay for exclusive journalism.
