No Such Thing As A ‘Free Read’ – The New York Times Puts Up A Paywall

Well, it is envitable really, The New York Times has announced today that it has signed up to Apple’s new in-app subscibptiion rules, as did News Corp owner Rupert Murdoch, notably of course with The Daily. To read the news on your smartphone it will cost you $15 a month and up to $20 from a tablet computer. There will be a $35 package that allows you to buy full access to The New York Times per month on all your devices.

The subscription plan will roll out on March 28, 2011 in the US although the digital subscriptions are launching in the Canadian market today in order to ‘fine-tune the customer experience prior to the global launch’.
