Mobile Photography and Art – A Picture’s Worth with Davide Capponi from Italy
‘A Picture’s Worth‘… is where we ask mobile photographers that have created powerful mobile photography/art to explain the processes they took. This includes their initial thoughts as to what they wanted to create, why they wanted to create it, how they created it, including all apps used and what they wanted to convey. In this ‘A Picture’s Worth’ today we asked Davide Capponi to tell us more about his image featured. Capponi has detailed his thoughts below, we think you’ll find this invaluable…
“On the month of April I spent a Saturday evening in the small town of Alba in Piedmont, Italy; Alba is the capital of the hilly Langhe area, recently inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage list and famous for its wines, white truffles and captivating landscapes. It is by the way the home town of Nutella, another great gift to humanity.
Alba has outgrown its provincial dimension and due to food and wine tourism it has become an international place where shop owners switch effortlessly between English and the local “piemontese” dialect; that warm evening there was a relaxed ambience downtown: people were shopping or drinking an aperitivo in the patios of cafes.
I had not planned a photographic shooting but it was a beautiful sunny day and the sunset gifted me with an extraordinarily warm light that illuminated the brick old buildings of the town in a magic way.
The name of the miniseries this photo belongs to is “Alba al tramonto”, literally “Sunset in Alba” but also a word pun: Alba means sunset in Italian so that would translate “Sunset in dawn” as well.
The photo I chose is the one that best represents that evening: people strolling downtown, a brick church, the warm sunset light and a flute player; I can still recall the sound of the flute reverberating among the old buildings.
The picture was shot with an iPhone 7 plus, basic editing was done with Snapseed and additional textures were provided by Distressed FX, a good app that recently had a fantastic update with many excellent new textures”.
