Mobile Photography & Art Flickr/Instagram Showcase 28 June 2020
The desire to belong is one of the greatest driving forces behind TheAppWhisperer.com’s longevity. Roles of photographers and artists have changed throughout history and to many, they can be lonely or isolating pursuits but it is the facility to identify within the structure of a collective, that individuals seek counsel, share ideas and pull each other forward to the benefit of each and everyone. Together, we have created one of the world’s most enduring and successful collectives. Its formation was not incidental, it was born from international experience of 20 years of photographic journalism and discontent with mainstream media’s portrayal of mobile art practice. During lockdown I have been agitating…

Weekend of Mobile Photography with Cedric Blanchon from France
This weekend Cedric Blanchon, an Award Winning Mobile Photographer chronicles his enviable junket with us. Viewing his text and images, I feel almost as if I am observing an impressionistic diary, rediscovering the joy of photographing the streets without a plan or project, with Blanchon by my side. I feel the energy within the captures, each person within every frame is subtly photographed, visual clues, hand movements, facial expressions are given a meaning. If you would like to review others that we have published in our Weekend series, please go here. For now, enjoy! (foreword by Joanne Carter). “I’m waiting for the weekend impatiently, I’m doing a hard job that…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 7 January 2018
“Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties“, writes Erich Fromm, one of the most prescient thinkers of the 20th century. Love and creativity play a huge part of my life and it is physical. Love of art, the art of loving, irrational, intellectual, obsessive, insightful. Professor Semir Zeki, a neurobiologist at the University College London, proved in a series of pioneering brain-mapping experiments that viewing art triggers a surge of dopamine, the feel-good chemicial, into the orbito-frontal cortex of the brain, resulting in feelings of intense pleasure, the same part of the brain that is excited, when we fall for someone, romantically. For all of us associated with…

Grand Flickr Group Showcase of 2016 – TheAppWhisperer – Mobile Photography and Art
I had intended to publish our 2016 Grand Flickr Group Showcase of Mobile Photography and Art on Christmas Day this year. I had prepared most of it ahead of time and was relatively well organised to go live on 25 December. However, events took a turn for the worse and as I awoke after a thoroughly turbulent night on the morning of 24 December, I picked up my phone and saw a Facebook message coming through from a friend expressing how sorry she was for the loss of Carolyn Hall Young a few hours before. For a few moments, I thought I was still in the midst of the wretched…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 1 May 2016
I have dedicated my entire life to the pursuit of creativity and I spend most of my time encouraging other people to do the same because living a creative life is the most beautiful life there is. In many ways, the human artistic expression is blessedly, refreshingly, non essential. John Lennon once said about the Beatles, “we were just a band”. Some of the most sublime occasions of my life have been when I have been inspired by all of the brilliant mobile photographers and artists that I have been lucky enough to surround myself with. The quality of the images submitted to our Flickr Group this week are so…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 24 April 2016
As I crashed spectacularly to the ground from my mountain bike early this morning, I was reminded of a dear friend talking to me about resilience. Not that I need reminding, I have met with enough adversity in my life to know that this is a psychological trait buried deeply into my psyche. There was nothing to do, I picked myself back up, swung my leg over the cross-bar, dropped a few gears and I pushed myself up the climb, I stood over my bike and I powered up that hill. The word ‘resilience’ derives from the Latin for ‘to jump again’. Mobile Photography and Art requires resilience, there is…
