Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 15 July 2018
‘How to fail’ is a podcast series by journalist and novelist Elizabeth Day, whereupon she interviews celebrities and asks them to list three examples, demonstrating their failures in life. Perhaps, not surprisingly, men somewhat balked at the idea that they’d failed at anything and when pressed, admitted to losing tennis matches, or the inability to get souffles to rise, whereas women confessed they had trouble limiting the list to just three failures. Naturally, my thoughts drifted to my own failures, where to start… trying too hard to find love as a teenager complete with ‘mistakes’…, not selling my first cottage before the property crash in 1990 when I was 21,…

Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 24 June 2018
To many artists in this weeks Mobile Photography & Art Showcase, and beyond, mobile art is a coping mechanism. Creating art allows us to live alternative lives, whether for ourselves or for our subjects. This weeks showcase should be recognised as own emblem, forever moving forward whilst simultaneously sensing time’s passage, evidence that is cognizant in our art. Dorothea Lange said it best with “A camera is a tool, for learning how to see without a camera“. This week we share a brilliantly delineated context of imagination whilst recognising among the first avant garde artists of the mobile camera. Enjoy! Thank you to all artists for submitting your works. If…

Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 20 May 2018
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour, and some style”, Maya Angelou – I couldn’t agree more… What’s happening now in the mobile art and photography scene, as in so many genres of art right now, is a revolt. It’s been building for sometime, but there’s now more urgency. And with that, artists are implored with a range of apocalyptic anxieties. Change is on the cards, however mindful we are aware of this pictorial elegance, we need to support it with passionate pleas and deft authority. At TheAppWhisperer we have a special relationship with…

Today, it’s World Laughter Day and I’ve already started… There is too much tension in our nation, our stress levels are too high, none of us are getting out of here alive, relax… When we join with others in laughter, we know how good we feel, remember? It creates social bonds, as we recognise that we’re are experiencing similar emotions, simultaneously. The therapeutic effects of laughter have been clinically studied since the 70s, but Dr Madan Kataria – who developed laughter yoga in Mumbai – is credited with bringing laughter therapy into the mainstream. Kataria set up the first laughter club in 1995. There are now more than 5,000 laughter…

Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 15 April 2018
Urgently contemporary, this weeks mobile photography and art flickr group showcase is a huge thrill and I know all about thrills. This week I chatted with a friend, one I’ve not seen for such a long time. The most charming man, the most fragrant and also the most generous. Slipping back into rambling conversations about, art, photography and sex, we absorbed and absolved one another as we nudged the English language to its limits. Art as in life, is about desire and the mobile photographers and artists that we have featured in this weeks showcase, have satiated mine. There’s real humanity in this showcase, with insights into love and longing…

Mobile Photography – StreetWise Winter 2017 / 2018 Showcase
“I love the people I photograph. I mean, they’re my friends. I’ve never met most of them or I don’t know them at all, yet through my images I live with them.” Bruce Gilden Hello Everyone! Thank you for submitting your images to StreetWise Flickr group for our ‘Winter Showcase.’ We were touched by the soulfulness and warmth of your photos – beautiful winter scenes (whether in tropical or snowy settings) of people (and animals) looking out windows, windows as frames, windows reflecting cityscapes, people in public transportation, carrying umbrellas, lone figures in urban landscapes and photos of people connecting hand in hand, or embracing one another. Even in the…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 4 March 2018
I’ve been really excited this week because I have created a new interview platform within TheAppWhisperer that allows artists to answer the textual questions we ask, visually and the results have been spectacular. I have wanted to do this for sometime. As I explained elsewhere on the internet, my thought processes behind this format of interview are based on not only my life experiences but also on some of my professional qualifications. I have been surrounded my entire life by people who find communicating in a neurotypical way, difficult. I believe and have always believed that the onus is on the person trying to interpret what is being communicated, to…

“I didn’t know I was even supposed to HAVE issues until I came to America”, a quote from a book I am currently reading – Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. A fearless contemporary construction about immigration, racism, American dreams and love. Adichie has the unique ability to meticulously and deeply humanise language, capturing a familiar plot but making it fresh. I read vast ranges of books, never fixating on a genre. I am the same when studying photography and art. I’m influenced by and interested in artists who break rules about genre. I’m interested in images with multiple levels that repay close inspection, ensuring I go to unexpected places. A…

Mobile Photography Awards Seventh Annual Awards – Results!
We’re delighted to reveal that the Mobile Photography Awards (MPA) 2017 Results have now been announced. As always we (I speak as a member of the Jury) were succumbed by the wealth of talent displayed across our screens. We’ve had more entries to this competition than ever before and the quality of submissions has been totally outstanding across all the categories. Personally, it was an honour for me to be asked to be a key member of this jury for the 7th consecutive year by founder of the Mobile Photography Awards, Daniel Berman and also to serve with James Bacchi, Anette Schutz, Giles Clarke, Evgeny Tchebotarev, Brendan O Se, Susannah…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 28 January 2018
Luminous throughout, this weeks Mobile Photography and Art Showcase is essential to your weekend viewing, smacking of indulgence but then as artists, viewing art, can never been seen as overindulgence, it’s the intensity of these pleasures that raise not only our emotional temperature but our physical temperature too. There’s plenty of heat in this showcase of desire, a hybrid of art, music and cinematic crowning climax. The presentation is elegant and dynamic enough as a form of expressive choreography, high voltage moments blended with reflective contemplation, suggesting there’s much at stake, enjoy! Thank you to all artists for submitting your works. If you would like your work to be considered…
