We have just published our latest Technical Tutorial by our Head of Technical Tutorials David Hayes. This time David gets to grips once again with the iOS photography app Layover and explores some excellent features (we have published various tutorials with Layover, if you’ve missed those, please go here). Over to you David… (foreword by Joanne Carter). Layover retails for $0.99/$0.69 and you can download it here. Over to you David …. (foreword by Joanne Carter)   Recent trends I’ve noticed amongst the photographers I follow are studies of a single image where they’ve applied different apps and techniques to create variations of that image. I’ve done likewise but what…

Technical Mobile Photography App Tutorial With Layover

    2013-08-21 / 6 Comments

We have just published our latest Technical Tutorial by our Head of Technical Tutorials David Hayes. This time David gets to grips with the iOS photography app Layover and explores some excellent features. Over to you David… (foreword by Joanne Carter). Layover retails for $0.99/$0.69 and you can download it here.   “In past articles, I’ve covered the different aspects of how to use this great layering app. This time I thought I’d have some fun creating a bit of “surrealism” given Layover’s capability to work with up to five layers at once. A bit of a disclaimer here at the beginning…all the elements that I will be using in…

Mobile Photography Tutorial – Using Layover and Diptic To Create A Composite Image

    2013-05-21 / 8 Comments

I’ve recently noticed that a number of the digital artists are creating some wonderful composite images using different frame-within-a-frame techniques. Seeing these images got me inspired to give this a try. While I know of one app that has several of its filters that will do this for you…as long as you’re willing to accept their formatting and effects. Instead of using this app, I decided to use Diptic and Layover to create my own composite image. If you haven’t tried Diptic or Layover yet, you can download them here: Diptic/$0.99/£0.69/download Layover/$0.99/£0.69/download     Since I like challenges I also decided to use just one source image…and one that in…

Layover Tutorial – Putting It Through Its Paces!

    2012-12-13 / 7 Comments

For a long time there were only a couple of apps that everyone seemed to use when they wanted to blend layers. Apps like Iris, Image Blender, and Juxtaposer. Each of these have their strengths and are quite dependable blenders. However, you can only blend two layers at a time when using these which can slow you down if, you’re working with more than two layers while building your image. In my first tutorial on the app, Layover, I gave you a quick overview…just enough to get you started. In this tutorial, I’d like to show you how easy it is to use Layover’s layering and blending tools to create…

    Tutorial – Technical – Layover – A First Look

    2012-11-07 / 11 Comments

For a long time there were only a couple of apps that everyone seemed to use when they wanted to blend layers. Apps like Iris, Image Blender, and Juxtaposer. Each of these have their strengths and are quite dependable blenders. However, you can only blend two layers at a time when using these which can slow you down if, you’re working with more than two layers while building your image. Recently the same folks, Peak Systems, that brought us Diptic introduced a new blending app, Layover. It’s been out long enough to work out some of its newness and was updated back in mid-October. What’s special about Layover is that…

It is possible to blend up to five images, there are 15 blend effects, the images are square by default but portrait/landscape ratios are available. You can save to camera roll or send to email, you can use a base layer on any color of the rainbow to add filtering to even just one image and there’s more.
