Following the concern voiced by David Cameron, UK Prime Minister and Theresa May, the Home Secretary, RIM has issued a new statement regarding the use of BBM and the English rioters. Here it is: “Further to the statements made on the 11th August by the British Prime Minister and Home Secretary, we welcome the opportunity for consultation together with other companies in the technology and telecommunication industry. Rumors Are Rife That RIM Are About To Shutdown BBM Due To Rioters In England Using It To Co-ordinate Attacks
Despite responses from RIM during the night that they will not be shutting down their BBM service it is now looking increasingly likely that they will. Tottenham MP David Lammy has called on RIM to shut down its BlackBerry Messenger service overnight, in the hope that it will prevent rioters coordinating more attacks throughout England. Lammy went on to speak on Radio 5Live earlier today where he said the BBM service was, "one of the reasons why unsophisticated criminals are outfoxing an otherwise sophisticated police force". Starbucks Now Accepts Mobile App Payments
Starbucks, the Seattle-based coffee store chain, announced today that its mobile payment system is now available nationwide, allowing users to pay for items using the Starbucks Card Mobile app available for the iPhone and Blackberry. Starbucks Card Mobile is a free app compatible with the iPhone and iPod touch. To make payments through the app, a registered Starbucks card is required. Obtaining a card and registering it with Starbucks is also free. Making A Payment To make a mobile payment, a user simply presents the barcode on the Scan Now screen within the app to a cashier. RIM Handing Out Free Playbooks To Developers of Approved Apps
Now that is one swanky move, Blackberry have now started accepting apps for their hot new Playbook that’s due out early next year and there is a great incentive to do so… Blackberry will give away a free PlayBook to developers of approved apps.
