Gray’s Anatomy – Tags and Likes By Richard Gray

2013-01-11 / Comments Off on Gray’s Anatomy – Tags and Likes By Richard Gray

It’s Friday already and at theappwhisperer.com that means its time for Richard Gray’s ‘Gray’s Anatomy’ column article. This week Richard takes a good look at tags and hashtags and ponders whether auto tagging via apps is the way to go. Over to you Richard (foreword by Joanne Carter).   I was at a pub quiz last night. One of the questions was, what name did a Facebook-obsessed couple in the US recently give their newborn baby? The correct answer was “Like”. My team’s incorrect guess was “Hashtag”, in my view a much cooler name for a child. On Instagram, hash tags generate likes. But if you read my column last…

    Mobile Monet/HD – Temporarily Free

2013-01-09 / Comments Off on Mobile Monet/HD – Temporarily Free

Mobile Monet generates a black and white sketch version of any picture you select. There are settings to adjust the sketch line thickness, intensity and even color, as well as the shading.

MobileMonet then lets you paint onto the sketch using a soft flow brush tool that applies a painterly version of the original photo. The more you brush, the more paint is applied. It’s deceptively simple, but very creative. Brush in just the areas you want to highlight. You can adjust the paint settings to get just look you want. The adjustments include vibrance and brightness, as well as number of color shades and edge softness. James Clarke, whom…

ArtRage for iPhone – Temporarily Free

    2013-01-07 / 4 Comments

ArtRage for iPhone is a very popular app for iPhone photography, just recently we interviewed the incredibly MaryJane Sarvis who used this app, along with others, in the image below. ArtRage doesn’t just place color on a canvas, it keeps track of how much paint there is and how wet it is, so you can blend colors under the brush as you paint without changing to a blending tool, or lay down thick lines of pigment for flattening and smearing with the Palette Knife.

Canvas grain affects the look of your strokes, and drier pigments break up on the surface to create textured effects. It’s not just a special effect, it’s…
