He writes:

“@coeiphoneart Day 10, A lovely simple image by @peterwilkin1. To me it has a very old world feel to it like a hand coloured sepia print. I love the muted colours of the chair, not all of the chair has been coloured and there are hints of the green elsewhere in the image. The bonus is the bird sitting on the chair, makes the whole scene slightly more surreal. There is a nice texture over the whole image. Nice one Peter Wilkin”.

He writes:

“@coeiphoneart Day 6, today’s choice is an image by @odinvadim – Vadim Demjianov. This snow scene looks like a Victorian postcard. It has been beautifully captured with a lovely soft light coming across the scene. To my eye there has been very little manipulation of the image apart I suspect the warm glow. I think this shows you don’t need lots of extra textures to have a great photograph. Well done.

@coeiphoneart Day7 street portraits are always popular and this one by @ilanaakoundi – Ilana Akoundi intrigues me I love the play of shadows on the wall. The added bonus is the person walking across the scene who has his hand up as if shading his eyes.

@coeiphoneart Day 8. Fascinating image by @dleibo  – David Scott Leibowitz, so many stories and questions. The woman in the white dress helping her child climb around the wall, the guitar is it hers or does it belong to someone else we can’t see. The photographer is she taking a picture of them, or of the building. The woman sitting at the top of the steps, is she counting her money or sorting out things in her bag? And the man walking into the scene. A superb image.

@coeiphoneart Day 9 A superb monochrome image by @allophile_ – Joseph Cyr, I love the textures and strong lighting. The footprints coming across the picture breaking up the pattern in the sand where they meet up with the shadow which brings your eye back to the tufts of grass, then you start the journey again. A simple image but full of drama”.

On day 5 @coeiphoneart highlighted this image by talented mobile photography @vadqcooper – Vicki Cooper and he writes @coeiphoneart Day5. This image by @vadqcooper reminds me of a 1940s film noir poster or the front cover of a Raymond Chandler novel. The way the image is distorted it’s like looking in a broken mirror. There is a lot of drama and mystery in this image”.

On day 3 @coeiphoneart highlighted the work of @vastumarco – Marco P and he writes @coeiphoneart Day3 Today I have picked an image by @vastumarco I love the colours in this surreal image. The birds are flying away and maybe the figure with the balloons would like to fly away with them. The horizon is really telephone lines with some birds sitting on it, one with a ballon. A clever bit of work all round”.

On day 4 @coeiphoneart highlighted the work of @charliebeef – Carlo Manzo and he writes @coeiphoneart Day4. Today I have chosen a piece of abstract art by @charliebeef I love the colours and the way it has been done. It looks more like a photograph of a painting rather than a digital painting. The textures look three dimensional, I’m sure this would look great as a large canvas print.”.

On day 1 @coeiphoneart highlighted the work of @norlink1 – Kurt Norlin and he writes “Hi everyone, Gerry @coeiphoneart here, I would like to thank Joanne for asking me to do this ( I think ) so many wonderful people have gone before me and it was a pleasure to see all your selections. Today I have chosen this image by @norlink1 I love the atmosphere and the sense of depth in the image. I also in this case like the minimalist use of filters, just a simple light texture applied. It has strong compositional elements and great visual appeal”.

On day 2 @coeiphoneart highlighted the work of @bonobostonecreations and he writes@coeiphoneart Day 2, this image is by @bonobostonecreations I have been a big fan of Bonobos work for years, always inventive and pushing boundaries. This image appeals to me for its simplicity. The direct gaze of the girl and the eyes intensified hold your attention to the face, then the addition of muted watercolour washes add that painterly touch. Always a pleasure to see his work”.

Mobile Photography & Art – My Top Five Apps by Gerry Coe from Northern Ireland

Share

We are revitalising our Top Five Apps section to our Photo App Lounge column. This a section within TheAppWhisperer where we ask highly accomplished mobile photographers and artists to list their top five apps and to explain why they have selected them. Kicking us off today is accomplished mobile photographer and artist Gerry Coe from Northern Ireland.  Take a look at his Top Five Apps… (foreword by Joanne Carter)

“I have been reading a lot of what all the other people who have contributed to the Top Five Photo Apps have been using and a lot of them are not very different from what I use. So in this little article I have picked out my some of my personal favourites and a few that I use for a particular purpose. I don’t really have one style of making images but I like to experiment to see what I can get out of an image. As a professional photographer, I have covered many different genres of photography from Weddings, Commercial, Aerial, Architecture, Portraits and many more and been brought up with film cameras of all sizes and then moved over to Digital and was delighted when I no longer had to stand for hours in a darkroom producing prints, then I discovered mobile photography but as a “real” photographer I knew you could not get anything decent quality wise from my then iPhone 4 and it was my good friend Dan Burkholder who inspired me to try doing something different with my “Telephone Camera” and so I have now embraced the whole idea of mobile photography. No longer do I have a sore back or neck from carrying a big heavy DSLR ,although I still bring my Lumix GX8 with me on trips and use it for any portrait sessions I do. So here are my five Apps…”.
