The App Whisperer columnist Richard Gray @rugfoot has launched an advanced course in mobile photography, The Advanced iPhoneography Group (AiG). This follows his launch of a ground-breaking introductory course in February 2012. Gray said: “Mobile photography has matured and many people are now looking for more sophisticated techniques and also new creative inspiration. This course gives them both as part a real-life community of forward-looking mobile photographers.” The course, which costs £100 for 5 weekly workshops of 3 hours from a central London venue, was launched last week and the first set of dates sold out in one day. A second set of dates has now been added with a third…

Gray’s Anatomy – Tags and Likes By Richard Gray
It’s Friday already and at theappwhisperer.com that means its time for Richard Gray’s ‘Gray’s Anatomy’ column article. This week Richard takes a good look at tags and hashtags and ponders whether auto tagging via apps is the way to go. Over to you Richard (foreword by Joanne Carter). I was at a pub quiz last night. One of the questions was, what name did a Facebook-obsessed couple in the US recently give their newborn baby? The correct answer was “Like”. My team’s incorrect guess was “Hashtag”, in my view a much cooler name for a child. On Instagram, hash tags generate likes. But if you read my column last…

Well it’s the first Friday of 2013 and it’s time for Richard Gray’s awesome Gray’s Anatomy column. This week Richard suggests humorously of course, what your mobile photography New Year’s Resolutions should be. Don’t miss this, over to you Richard (foreword by Joanne Carter). ‘It’s new year’s resolution time! You may have vowed to eat more roughage or not clip your toe nails while watching television in 2013, but how about some resolutions for your mobile photography? Here are some suggestions, loosely based on my own half-hearted intentions: 1) Use Snapseed less. Especially the drama filter. Google bought Snapseed in 2012: proof if proof were needed that Google…

It’s Friday again and that means it’s time for Richard Gray’s, Gray’s Anatomy column. This week Richard fill us with festive cheer and gives some great tips on how to survive it all, don’t miss this. (Foreword by Joanne Carter). “Are you secretly not looking forward to watching Morecambe and Wise this Christmas? Apologies to our non-UK readers, but suffice to say, it’s a show from the 70s shown every Christmas Day in the UK which it is against the law not to watch. But provided you are in the same room as a television showing the show, you are technically within the law. And so you are…

Gray’s Anatomy – Easy To Laugh
I can hardly believe that it’s Friday again, but it is and it seems to come round faster every week. Richard Gray has sent through his regular Friday post for his column ‘Gray’s Anatomy’. This week Richard discusses the influx of images uploaded to Instragam and considers whether quantity is really any match for quality. Over to you Richard (Foreword by Joanne Carter). “You may have already seen the hilarious youtube sensation (no not Gangham style) to poke fun at some of the cliched images and lack of originality on Instagram. Set to Nickelback’s Photograph song, if you haven’t, click here, you’ll see it, in all its mocking glory,…

Gray’s Anatomy – I Really Heart That Photo
Wow, another whirlwind week has passed us by and it’s Friday again, that means just one thing around here, Richard Gray’s ‘Gray’s Anatomy Column’. This week Richard laments true love and discusses the importance of a good old fashioned ‘thumbs up’. Don’t miss this, over to you Richard…(foreword by Joanne Carter). ‘It may be tempting fate for a blog to play down the importance of words. And sometimes people bemoan the “like like like” culture of social media. It’s all so impersonal, they say, it’s too easy just to click the heart button. On Instagram, if you get a certain number of likes, you get on the popular page,…

Gray’s Anatomy – It’s Not Really A Cloud
Friday is here again and that means just one thing at theappwhisperer.com, Richard Gray’s Gray’s Anatomy Column. This week Richard discusses the recent downtime at Instagram and considers the unthinkable. Over to you Richard. (Foreword by Joanne Carter). ‘Instagram was down briefly yesterday morning. There was quite a long outage a few months ago when the world seemed to stand still. People began, quite literally, to twiddle, if not their thumbs, then their fingers, aimlessly. And the photos posted by people just prior to the outage enjoyed hours of exposure on all their followers’ screens. I had to look at a plate of sweet and sour chicken for three hours.…
