Grand Flickr Group Showcase of 2016 – TheAppWhisperer – Mobile Photography and Art
I had intended to publish our 2016 Grand Flickr Group Showcase of Mobile Photography and Art on Christmas Day this year. I had prepared most of it ahead of time and was relatively well organised to go live on 25 December. However, events took a turn for the worse and as I awoke after a thoroughly turbulent night on the morning of 24 December, I picked up my phone and saw a Facebook message coming through from a friend expressing how sorry she was for the loss of Carolyn Hall Young a few hours before. For a few moments, I thought I was still in the midst of the wretched…

Mobile Photography and Art to many, is still in its infancy. However, when viewing this weeks flickr group showcase, even the most judgemental moralist will realise that true human goodness, in all of its purity and freedom, is present here. This showcase must be judged in terms of art, not of its moral, social or political weight. Look for the naked physiognomy that is revealed in each image. This art is a pleasure for all of us that get to view it, the mystery of the imagery, enables us to share one of the many thrilling experiences that this medium brings to us all. Enjoy! If you would like your…

Mobile Photography – StreetWise Showcase – August 2016
“You just have to live and life will give you pictures.” Henri Cartier-Bresson Such a joy to view all of the photos submitted to our StreetWise Flickr group from around the world! Thank you so much for participating and inspiring us with your images and welcome, also, to those newer to our street photography community. Once again, it was difficult for us to choose only a relatively few images from all those that were submitted – we were blown away by the quality of the photos. As a reminder, we choose images for the showcase that are in keeping with our group’s intention and guidelines “We believe that it is…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 17 July 2016
Art and health are in-explicitly linked, we know the obvious health benefits and therapeutic advantages of creating physical art with paintings and photography but also it’s linked with literature and medicine. Many will notice ‘the ‘language barrier’ when visiting a doctor. Sometimes your doctor may not understand your condition because you cannot describe it lucidly enough and in turn, your doctor cannot describe the proposed treatment because he cannot explain it squarely to you. Language is integral to medicine, as an art, this means language is integral to our health. Chekhov famously quipped: “Medicine is my lawful wife and literature my mistress; when I get tired of one, I spend…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 5 June 2016
“However long your stay on this small planet lasts, and whatever happens during it, the most important thing is that-from time to time-you feel life’s sweet caress” and so continues the wistful prose of William Boyd’s 16th novel, Sweet Caress, that I have deeply indulged this week. Boyd is a brilliant novelist and I highly recommend our readers enjoy this tale of a fictional female photographer, in this brilliant story of a life well lived. It engrosses with a level of detail that I often hanker for. This weeks’ mobile photography and art flickr group showcase overwhelms with a narrative all of its own. With a resolute, all encompassing, technically…

Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase – 22 May 2016
Currently, I am on a personal quest to discover and build my knowledge of human happiness. It is a vast subject and I do not pertain to elude quiet or even loud wisdom on this matter. Reading Matt Haig’s ‘Reasons to Stay Alive’ book has been quite insightful; I read from many different sources each day. We can search and scan for eternal contentment it can become all encompassing and is it really necessary? I agree with Haig when he quotes the perpetually great poet Emily Dickinson, “that it will never come again is what makes life so sweet”. This weeks mobile photography and art flickr group showcase has been…
