Introduction The Samsung Galaxy S9+ or plus reviewed here is the larger of the two Galaxy S series smartphone models but it also distinguishes itself by being the more-photo-oriented of the two by inclusion of dual rear camera modules. The smaller, more pocket-friendly of the two, the S9 with its 5.8-in screen only has one rear wide-angle camera and so misses out on the telephoto camera and the background blurring options. Could You Be The Next Magnum Photographer?
Becoming a Magnum photographer is what many photographers dream of and rightly so. It is one of the most prestigious photography co-operatives in the world. Each member has undergone a rigorous process of self-selection in order to become full members. Members include Elliott Erwitt, Martin Parr, Alec Soth, Tim Hetherington and there’s many more. Magnum is currently accepting portfolio submissions for review, during their annual member meeting in June 2019. Wouldn’t it be fabulous if they would accept a mobile photographer? The Photography Gala Awards, with the sponsorship of the Biennial of Fine Art & Documentary Photography invited women photographers worldwide to submit images to the Twelfth Edition of The Julia Margaret Cameron Award. This Award is open to women photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought. Traditional, contemporary, avant-garde, creative and experimental works that include old and new processes, mixed techniques, and challenging personal, emotional or political statements are welcomed. One late night this week, on the tube homeward bound, I was accosted by a couple. One sat purposefully too close to me, physical and personal boundaries abandoned, and the other, opposite, knocking knees. The woman, her head leaning on my shoulder, was stonned I would say and the man somewhat addled, suffering a huge headache, I was stone cold sober. Once they penetrated my wired vigilance I got chatting. This weeks Saturday Poetry, matched with mobile photography/art is entitled ‘Ghosts and Fashion’ by Elaine Equi. Equi was born in Oak Park, Illinois, in 1953. She received a BA and an MA in English from Columbia College, where she taught a poetry workshop for several years after graduating. Along with her husband, Jerome Sala, she was active in Chicago’s performance poetry scene. Equi’s first book, Federal Woman, was published in 1978 by Danaides Press.
