    Mobile internet speeds in London and surrounding areas have more than doubled since the launch of O2 and Vodafone’s 4G services two months ago. According to thousands of independent scientific tests by RootMetrics across the capital, Vodafone has the edge on O2, recording download speeds of 9.5 Mbps and upload speeds of 4.7 Mbps (upload) compared to O2’s 7.1Mbps (download) and 3.7 Mbps (upload). Despite the positive start by Vodafone and O2’s 4G offering, EE remains the fastest and highest rated overall network.     In the race between Vodafone and O2 to establish new 4G services, both networks are delivering strong – and similar – initial results. Mobile performance research company RootMetrics (www.rootmetrics.co.uk) conducted over 11,000 tests across central London over the five days immediately after O2 and Vodafone launched 4G, finding O2’s average download speed on a blend of 3G and 4G was 16.3 Mbps, whilst Vodafone’s average download speed was 16.2 Mbps.
