    Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 11 November 2018

    2018-11-11 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 11 November 2018

‘Why Women Have Better Sex Under Socialism‘ what perfect timing, if you pardon the pun. Kristen R Ghodsee has published a thoroughly researched exploration proclaiming that capitalism is bad for women.  She argues, adopting some ideas from socialism  ‘women will have better lives’ and of course, this includes sex. Ghodsee, an acclaimed ethnographer and professor of Russian and East European Studies, spent years researching what happened to women in countries that transitioned from state socialism to capitalism. In this book, she analysed many facets of a woman’s life – work, parenting, sex and relationships, community and authority. One chapter, entitled “Women: Like Men, But Cheaper,” she discusses women in the…

    Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 21 October 2018

    2018-10-21 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 21 October 2018

One late night this week, on the tube homeward bound, I was accosted by a couple. One sat purposefully too close to me, physical and personal boundaries abandoned, and the other, opposite, knocking knees. The woman, her head leaning on my shoulder, was stonned I would say and the man somewhat addled, suffering a huge headache, I was stone cold sober. Once they penetrated my wired vigilance I got chatting. Apparently, they had mistaken me for Rosemary Bennett, The Times, Social Affairs Correspondent but they couldn’t quite marry up my constrained chronological age and hers. Admiring my skin, my clothes, my rings, my voice, I felt owned and whilst living…

“I began again, after lovemaking, to experience the sense of heightened interconnectedness, which Romantic poets and Painters called ‘the Sublime.” Ah yes, another week and another book, this time ‘Vagina: A New Biography’ by Naomi Wolf, it’s not actually new, I’m just a little late to this particular party. So… yes, Wolf explains that during orgasm, she achieved the ability ‘to see ‘colours as if they were brighter‘. This was actually, until she started having a bit of trouble altogether and determined to pursue the matter, following a trip to her gynaecologist and then to New York’s finest neurologist, she was diagnosed with a mild form of spina bifida, essentially, her…

A choreographed multimedia showcase devised with over thirty of the very best mobile photographers and artists from around the world today. This week we bring you an intense mystical piece, one that forcefully confronts our frailty, as we lurch poleaxed by grief from one image, only to be reanimated with cryptic, expressionistic neoclassical, to the next. Viewing this is a raw process, as is our capacity to create a new life and redefine what an artist means, simultaneously navigating modern life and all of its entails…Enjoy! Photographer, Mary McCartney (Paul’s daughter), with whom I used to work at a London photo agency said, “I’m embarrassed to say that my main camera is my iPhone”. That’s not to say she doesn’t use 35 mm film, a Leica in fact, or a DSLR, even a Polaroid, but what she loves about her iPhone is ‘how immediate it is‘. Contrasing with Grayson Perry, artist confession, ‘the cameraphone has made the forest of glowing screens ubiquitous in museums, galleries and at events. Maybe I’m a snob, but it’s put me off photography’. We take thousands and thousands of pictures, every single day, do we treasure them? Some we do, each represents…

    2018-07-01 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 1 July 2018

‘The Big Picture’ is an idiom we use for a number of expressions. As a noun, it may mean the overall scheme of something important, as opposed to the significant details. As an adjective it can be used to describe a scheme, such as ‘these are big picture projections, we’ll sort the details out later”. We also use it informally in conversation, such as one I was having with my eldest son this morning over breakfast, (he’s home from university). He was explaining, rather alarming to me how at a nightclub last night, he narrowly avoided being stabbed because of his ability to ‘see the big picture’ and managed to…

    Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 17 June 2018

    2018-06-17 / 1 Comment

Mobile Art and its artists need their audience, this showcase manifests with my welcoming spirit, embodying feelings with a kind of jovial gratitude and there’s a reason for that. This is an elegant, charming and poetically simple showcase within its means and methods. The opening image should stop you in its tracks and the rest will take you on a journey, clearly without rudimentary structure. It is figuratively tied together with pure arte povera, in the sense of art, without the restraints of traditional practices and materials. Deep within its core, hear the screams of belief in the democratic mutuality of art. The metaphor is overwhelming. Thank you to all…

    2018-06-10 / Comments Off on Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 10 June 2018

“Happily ever after is a very relative thing. I’m grateful that I get to be alive”, this is one of the many excerpts from the deepest conversations I had for many years, with our mutual friend, dear Carolyn Hall Young. I miss her immensely, everyday and everyone I’ve ever spoken to, who has known her, has the same feelings. Why is it that some people make such an impact on our lives, out of the thousands and thousands that we know now or will know, what is it, that pushes them into our hearts and keeps them there?  There are many answers to this complex question and I would say…
