MIRA Mobile Art Prize 2022 – Results
We are delighted to announce the Winner’s and the entire Shortlist of the 13th edition of the 2022 Annual MIRA Mobile Art Prize, created by Manuela Matos Monteiro and supported by TheAppWhisperer among others within the Mobile Art World. You may have heard of Dr Megan Poe, she is a 46 year old psychiatrist and associate professor who teaches an undergraduate course on love, which she designed at New York University. It has achieved overwhelming success. The course is called ‘Love Actually’ and attempts to pack as much about the human experience of love in, as is possible. The course leans heavily on the work of Eric Fromm, the psychologist best known for his 1956 book, The Art of Loving. “In these last decades ‘concerned’ photography has done at least as much to deaden conscience as to arouse it”, Sontag, S. On Photography (1979). Sontag argued that beleaguering the public with sensationalist photographs of war and poverty was a definitive way to numb the public’s response. Sontag believed that the more distressing images people viewed, the more immune they became to their impact; viewers became reduced to inaction, either through guilt or a dismissive lethargy towards making a difference. Through A New Lens: Works from the World-Wide Mobile Photography Movement Exhibition
I am so proud to announce the Perspective Gallery is to present “Through A New Lens”, an exhibition by seven internationally-recognized iPhoneographers. The exhibit, curated by my dear friend and museum professional, art historian and photographer, Gina Costa, demonstrates a broad range of styles and approaches used by mobile technology. Works range from traditional, “straight” photographs, to abstract and highly “apped” works of art. Visitors to the exhibition will observe the incredible span of possibilities mobile technology permits. The evolution of mobile photography can be understood as the logical next step of developments in the history of photography.
