Mobile Movies Showcase – Week 2 – By Donna Donato

    2013-06-08 / 3 Comments

Welcome back to our second article in our fabulous new Column, Mobile Movies curated by myself. We have been inspired by the Flickr upgrade of 1 Terabyte of storage for everyone and have been wanting to launch a mobile movie section for some time. Now seems to be perfect, the new Flickr upgrade will allow for a full 3 minutes of 1080p HD quality video per single film and you can have as many as you have storage space for. Each week I (you can find me on Flickr here) will curate the movie uploads to our new Flickr group – MobileMoviesTheAppWhisperer – I will view all the videos uploaded…

Gray’s Anatomy – The Royal Society for iPhoneographers – By Richard Gray

    2013-06-07 / 3 Comments

There’s a huge building on London’s very salubrious Piccadilly which used to be the home of the Royal Institute for Painters in Water Colors. I know this because the words “The Royal Institute for Painters in Water Colors” are written in large stone letters across the top of the building. People sometimes say of something they’re not quite sure about: it’s not set in stone. The Painters in Water Colors were obviously quite sure of themselves when they moved in and so they decided, yes, let’s set the name in stone. Or perhaps their decision was motivated more by their determination to be considered a serious art form. The Royal…

    A Picture’s Worth – With Lisa Waddell

    2013-06-07 / 10 Comments

A Picture’s Worth… is where we ask mobile photographers that have taken or made, as the case may be, powerful mobile art to explain the processes they took. This includes their initial thoughts as to what they wanted to create, why they wanted to create it, how they created it, including all apps used and what they wanted to convey. We also ask these incredible artists to explain their emotions and how the image projects those feelings. We have published a few A Picture’s Worth articles recently, if you have missed those – please go here. In this A Picture’s Worth today Lisa Waddell discusses her image ‘From The Depth…

VSCO Cam – Now Available! – Find Out More About VSCO Grid Here

    2013-06-07 / 7 Comments

Well the developers have been teasing us long enough and now it’s time to download this fabulous app, that they are billing as ‘The standard of Mobile Photography’. The sample images that we have seen are incredibly impressive. There’s an incredibly interesting feature, perhaps above the others, which are impressive in their own right but one thing that really grabs our interest is the VSCO Grid which allows your images to be shown in a grid format within the app and online. You can share the images but there are no ‘likes’ or ‘comments’ areas, instead the developers want this to function solely as a gallery space and are adamant…

Before sharing our featured story… we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone for their submissions to Backspaces! So please make sure to visit our page (http://www.backspac.es/tag/theappwhispererstreetsahead) on the Backspaces app to see all the work that is being done. And also, please continue to tag your stories with #theappwhispererstreetsahead, so that we can find them… and enjoy them and feature them here!   For the first…

Mob-Entrepreneurs – American Aperture Awards – Call for Mobile Entries

    2013-06-06 / 1 Comment

We set out our new section on TAW a few days ago and Mob-Entrepreneurs is becoming a very busy space. It’s a special are where we can highligh all of the many fabulous ventures that mobile photographers and artists are involved in. You can find out more about it here. Bob Weil and Daria Polichetti (iPhoneArt.com) have been invited to be jurors for the mobile component of the American Aperture Awards. It is not primarily a mobile arts competition. Founded by Chris Davies, the publisher of Fabrik Magazine in LA (a former LA photography gallery owner) and a select collection of art books, AX3 should be an interesting new addition…
