RIM Finally Updates BlackBerry PlayBook OS To OS 2.0
Well we’ve all been waiting for this for a while, but as we mentioned in our CES preview, RIM stuck to their word and released OS 2.0 today. If you’ve got your PlayBook in your hands, just head to Settings, then Software Updates and finally Check for Updates. Your PlayBook will note the OS 2.0, so just follow the instructions to install. Want A Free PlayBook? Become A BlackBerry Developer
If you’re currently an Android app developer but quickly port your apps to run on the BlackBerry PlayBook, RIM will give you a 16 GB tablet for free. Alec Saunders, the RIM Developer Executive mentioned the news in a Twiter message yesterday. The downside is that you’ve only got until February 13, 2012 for the Android apps to be optimized for the PlayBook and submitted for listing in the BlackBerry App World store. Ouch – RIM Has $1.7 Million Of PlayBooks Stolen
Oh RIM come on – you don’t need this! Somehow, whilst a truck driver was catching a break last Thursday, his truck full of 22 pallets of BlackBerry PlayBooks – that’s around 5,000 units was stolen. Not only that, there was no tracking device on the vehicle so the theives just went on their merry way. This loss has been valued at $1.7 million, add this to the $485 million loss recently took a hit on with its poorly selling PlayBooks and the latest delay to their BlackBerry 10 phones and things are not looking good.
