Huawei NEXT-IMAGE Awards: Winning entries capture stories through the lens
After 114 days of photography, submissions and judging, the Huawei NEXT-IMAGE Awards have crowned their winners. This year’s wins come especially well earned as Huawei received a record-breaking number of submissions, with participants from over 120 countries and regions submitting more than 1.19 million incredible entries. With entries up 128 percent since last year’s contest, 2020’s Huawei NEXT-IMAGE Awards was one of the world’s most popular and influential photography competitions. Winners were chosen from across six categories, with three Grand Prize winners, 15 category winners, 50 runners-up and five Honourable Mentions being awarded. Double Life a book-length photographic project by Kelli Connell has kept me entranced this week. At first, the viewer will imagine that the images are of shared moments in the life of two women, who possibly appear to be a couple. Then as each page is turned, we begin to realise that it’s not two women, it’s one, the same woman and the mystery begins. The images are documentary style and not dissimilar to the autobiographical work of Nan Goldin, albeit without the edgy undertones. Book Launch – A Joyous Representation of Mobile Art Visualised Through the Quilt Project
I am delighted today to announce the publication of the Mobile Art Quilt Project Book. Now, arguably considered to be one of the 21st century’s most important poetic pieces and a defining staple of mobile art. It is a piece of literature and art that was inspired by the creation of the physical Mobile Art Quilt which showcases 234 pieces of art created by individual mobile artists throughout the world. Each artwork stands on its own, with its own structure, meaning and symbolism. Inside the book there are written texts by architect of the Quilt Project, Roger Guetta as well as collaborators, Lorenka Campos, Linda Toki and Kate Zari Roberts.…
