Welcome to our twenty first Portrait of an Artist Showcase! This Showcase complements our Portrait of an Artist Column edited by myself. Every two weeks I review and curate work that has been submitted to our dedicated Flickr group. In addition, Joanne Carter creates a showcase video which features a sampling of submitted work, we will also highlight a few images that have caught our attention… offering some thoughtful commentary about technique, composition and subject matter.
If you are not a member of our Facebook group… we highly recommend that you join us! This is our space for sharing newsworthy information and conducting discussions (what, when, where, why and how) regarding mobile portraiture and portraiture in general.
We hope you enjoy this weeks’ showcase. Many congratulations to all the artists featured this week, links to their images can be found below:

There is a duality in this image that makes it so attractive. A dramatic and seductive struggle within the self, where the body language expresses rebellion: head up, eyes wide open and the delicate edit around the eyes, just like a veil, denote a certain submission and fragility. Indeed a gorgeous black and white, skilfully edited.
‘Perdonarte’ – El Viajero Del Faro
Whether this character is bowing in regret, submission, or veneration, remains a mystery for the spectator. But the scene is inevitably captivating and moving. The location is sombre and the general mood is gloomy. Color, light and emotion blend with this weakened or repented man who has fallen on his knees as if he is carrying something that is very difficult to bear, which holds our attention awaiting for some relief.
