“I knew how tight everything was, especially the loss of twenty minutes and I asked the Queen if she would remove the tiara. (I used the word ‘crown’, which was a faux pas). I suggested that a less dressy look might be better. And she said ‘Less dressy!’ What do you think this is?”. A quote from a book that I have been carrying around all week, sent to me personally by my dear colleague at the publishers, Phaidon. ‘Annie Leibovitz At Work’ is a revised and updated edition of the original book of 2008 and I just adore it. It offers more than a glimpse behind the scenes of some of her most famous photographs but also unites technical brilliance with her unerring hard work ethics. I’ve moved from room to room, office to office, tube to tube, pavement to road and this book I have carried with me. Falling in love with Leibovitz has everything to do with the power of her photographs, her words and the tension then the tingling when milk comes and the relief as its devoured fervently.  Sometimes I get so attached to a work of art, whether it be a book, a poem, a picture that I take it with me, like a lover, something that feeds my soul. You’ll feel this too whilst viewing this weeks’ Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group Showcase. Each work feels equally succinct, isolating the moments when new perceptions meet old memories, producing a sudden understanding of what we see in our world. Enjoy!

Thank you to all artists for submitting your works. If you would like your work to be considered for entry in to our weekly Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group, please submit it to our dedicated group, here.

One late night this week, on the tube homeward bound, I was accosted by a couple. One sat purposefully too close to me, physical and personal boundaries abandoned, and the other, opposite, knocking knees. The woman, her head leaning on my shoulder, was stonned I would say and the man somewhat addled, suffering a huge … Read more Mobile Photography & Art – Flickr Group Showcase – 21 October 2018

A husband hits his wife to silence her. A date rapist or acquaintance rapist refuses to let the “no” of his victim mean what it should, that she alone has jurisdiction over her body. Rape culture asserts that women’s testimony is worthless, untrustworthy. Anti-abortion activists also seek to silence the self-determination of women. A murderer silences forever. These are assertions that the victim has no rights, no value – is not an equal“, an extract from Rebecca Solnit’s book ‘The Mother of All Questions’ and it’s highly appropriate today. No, I will not be silenced. No, I will not allow my FB page to go black. Right now, we are strong, women are rightfully gaining their power. Silence is what has allowed predators to rampage through the decades unchecked and women have died for it. So, I have published this week’s spectacular Flickr Group Showcase of Mobile Art and Photography, it tells so many stories and we still have so far to go. Enjoy!

I love literature almost as much as I love visual art and this week I’ve been indulging in ‘The Letters of Sylvia Plath: Volume II, 1956-1963, edited by Peter K Steinberg and Karen Kukil. The relationship between Ted Huges and Sylvia Plath as we know, was astonishing in its intensity and Plath’s letters, deeply private. The tragedy of their lives is no more acute when you consider what could have been, two immensely gifted poets, who found each other and then literally tore each other apart. Hughes who cheated not only physically but emotionally published poems which Plath discovered, each one a passionate love poem to his lover, ‘describing their orgasms, her ivory body, her smell, her beauty’ and then expressing in a ‘world of beauties he married a hag’. To Plath ‘the knowledge that I am ugly and hateful kills me’. Physically, it’s now known that not only did Plath suffer a miscarriage in February 1961 but her letters reveal the reason, ‘Ted beat me up physically a couple of days before my miscarriage’. How is it that two people, so, on the surface perfectly suited, could penetrate their hatred so intensely within one another? No one is normal but has humanity learned nothing? And thus, I flung myself back into the beautiful world of mobile photography and art, such an evolving and vivid transition. This week I have carefully compiled an extraordinary variety of images as we continue our own revolution in art. When you play this film, you’ll discover a show with a very pure and simple focus: the spectacle being, our radical new way of making art. Enjoy!

Luminous throughout, this weeks Mobile Photography and Art Showcase is essential to your weekend viewing, smacking of indulgence but then as artists, viewing art, can never been seen as overindulgence, it’s the intensity of these pleasures that raise not only our emotional temperature but our physical temperature too. The presentation is elegant and dynamic enough as a form of expressive choreography, high voltage moments blended with reflective contemplation, suggesting there’s much at stake, enjoy!

Laying the foundations of Mobile Photography and Art, this weeks Flickr group showcase is as much a meditation on great art as it is also of human passion. Every artist, moreover, perhaps every human knows, has experienced, is experiencing or seeking, passion. Passion does not have to mean sex, or ‘intelligent sex’ as Robert Mapplethorpe described his ‘ideal passion’. No passion for art is a seduction in itself and when you view this showcase, free from all constraints, you will experience the intense relationship, each artist has not only with their art but also with each of us. Enjoy!

Thank you to all artists for submitting your works. If you would like your work to be considered for entry into our weekly Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group, please submit it to our dedicated group, here.
