Mobile Photography & Imagery – Eighth Assignment ‘Belonging’ #tawbelonging

Yesterday we published our ‘Ladylike’ chapter for our forthcoming book ‘Away with Words’. If you missed that, please go here to view.  Today, we’re extending the contribution date for our latest assignment ‘Belonging’, due to the busy Christmas/holiday period.

To take part please send your image(s) to my email address – joannetheappwhisperer@protonmail.com and/or to Instagram with this hashtag #tawbelonging. At the end of each month, we will gather the images that have been contributed and select one for this immersive critique.

I will personally write this essay with over 1000 words. Each critique will identify the elements, contextual meaning of these elements, interpretation and conclusion. Each critique will then be published not only on TheAppWhisperer, the world’s most popular mobile photography & art website but also throughout our vast social media channels. At the end of the year, we will publish a book featuring all of these critiques. As you can appreciate each critique will take some time to create well, so we ask, if you would like to take part to donate £10 per image that you submit (there is no limit to the number of images you submit), we feel this is fair. To do this, just select the appropriate allowance at the bottom of our donation section at the end of this post.

To date we have published chapters by the following artists: Rita Colantonio, Valeria Cammareri, M. Cecilia Sao Thiago, Peter Wilkin, Becky Menzies and Lee Atwell.

To read some of our previously published chapters, please go here.

Creating art, photography or otherwise, is an outlet to express our emotions. This eighth assignment can be interpreted in your art literally or metaphorically, or any other interpretations you may draw, all entries are welcome. This assignment window will now close on 21 January 2020, when we will announce the new one. To take part please send your image(s) to my email address – joannetheappwhisperer@protonmail.com and/or to Instagram with this hashtag #tawbelonging.

Please send £10 per image to enter this assignment via the donation table below.

New Bowie Exhibition to Take Place in London

Share

I know there are a few Bowie fans among our community, so I thought you might appreciate this… A private, invitation-only viewing will be held on Thursday 9 January 2020 at Masterpiece Art, Holland Park, London entitled BOWIE: From Major Tom to Major Arcana.

The exhibition will present a case study of a rare set of five hand-pulled silkscreen prints, known as the Arcane Series, created by David Bowie in November 1975 the works offer an intriguing window into the alternative influences of the mystical and esoteric that pervaded the singer’s private and public personas of the late 1960’s and through the 1970’s.

The Arcane Series reflects iconography which manifests boldly in such songs as Quicksand (1971), Station to Station (1976) and fascinatingly also Lazarus, from Bowie’s final album, Blackstar (2016).  This life-long spiritual journey takes us into the study of Zen Buddhism, the teachings of Kabbalah, tarot cards, divination and wider occultism, reconstructing the complicated network of imagery that drove Bowie’s quest for higher answers.

Speaking about the event Mark Maurice, CEO and Gallery Founder, said, “In addition to these rarely exhibited works, unseen by the public since Bowie’s first solo exhibition David Bowie: New Afro/Pagan and Work 1975-1995, we will also be showing drawings, paintings and iconic photography from the many fruitful collaborations Bowie had with other leading artists across the years.”

Featured artists include: David Bowie, Derek Boshier, Brian Duffy, Tony McGee, Geoff MacCormack, Tony O’Neill, Masayoshi Sukita and others.

All artworks will be available for purchase on the night.  Masterpiece Art are offering a donation from artwork and catalogue sales to support the Friends of the Children of Orissa, a charity who finances a boarding school for over 400 deprived or destitute girls in Orissa, one of the poorest states in India (www.orissa.org.uk).

The private viewing is sponsored by Supreme Jets and Sandie ‘The Spice Guy’ Vara and promotion by Business Live UK Ltd.  Applications for tickets to the private view are available from Eventbrite: http://davidbowieartexpo.eventbrite.co.uk

Jill Booker Joins our Mobile Photographer & Artists Portfolio Profiles

We are building the largest and most comprehensive portfolio of mobile photographers and mobile artists in the world and we are delighted to welcome Jill Booker’s portfolio today. Booker explains “I am a fine art photographer living in Winnipeg, Canada. I primarily photograph nature, capturing the quiet moments of beauty I find in my everyday life. My iphone photography, however, tends to be more colourful, and includes street scenes as well as nature. Although I love to play with apps and experiment with a variety of styles, the majority of my work uses an abstract, impressionistic style”. View her portfolio profile here.

We continue to build our directory of portfolios and we need your help. If you would like to be included in this comprehensive directory, viewed by millions of organisations throughout the world, then please submit a selection of twelve images, either an artist’s statement or description of your work and social media links. Send this information via WeTransfer or Dropbox to joannetheappwhisperer@protonmail.com

Although we do not ask for any payment for this service, many artists do contribute, using the donation form at the end of this post, to enable us to continue supporting you. Each donation, however small, is hugely appreciated and makes all the difference to us.

We look forward to adding you! Huge welcome Jill!
