Xweather

media_1337012561393.png

Launch of Xweather, first of its kind global extreme weather app for iPhones and iPads. Between 2010 and 2011 more than 42 million people were displaced by extreme weather in Asia alone. In the U.S., 80% of Americans have been impacted by extreme weather in the past three years. The fall floods in Thailand cost more than $15 billion in insured losses, and much more in uninsured losses.

The "snowpocalypse" in the Northeast and raging fires in Texas were just two of more than a dozen extreme weather events in the U.S. in 2011 with damages exceeding $1 billion. In many places "extreme" weather is becoming the new normal. With the launch of Xweather, the innovators at eLoomn are providing the first dynamic and graphically engaging multimedia tool for putting extreme weather events in context.

Other weather and climate apps help users check conditions in specific locations or provide warnings and updates on local hazardous weather conditions, but Xweather is the only app that provides near real-time updates on extreme weather events around the world, including hurricanes, cyclones and other severe storm events, floods, volcanic eruptions and dust storms. Users get the big picture.

"We want to help people see and explore what’s happening in the world that they’re not hearing about," says Dr. Rich Walker, Xweather co-creator. "The world is increasingly interconnected. The impacts of extreme weather events that cause social, economic and environmental upheavals in one community or country are quickly felt in another, and another. People need more tools to help them understand and manage these ever-changing conditions."

Users can quickly get a bird’s eye perspective on extreme weather across the globe, focus in on specific regions, tap on any event pin to access a detail page with stunning NASA satellite images, or search nearby to discover what has been happening in their own backyards. In addition to current extreme weather, users can also access Xweather’s growing historical archive to explore events that have occurred around the world in the past two record-setting years.

Bert Studios, an innovative new mobile applications developer, is excited today to announce the release of Motion Runner for the iPhone and iPod touch. A unique run n’ jump side-scrolling arcade romp, Motion Runner is a dynamic adventure where player’s faith and intuition is as important as having quick reflexes. Sporting beautiful minimalist graphics, this game challenges players to get their stick-man hero across 20 obstacle filled tracks with as much style and precision as they can! Motion Runner is currently available for download on the App Store for $0.99 in the Games Category.

Motion Runner presents gamers with intuitive arcade action like they’ve never seen it before. The game’s 20 levels are split into 15 shorter stages and 5 final routes that are longer, more challenging, and designed to put players’ limits to the test! Not to be outdone in terms of accessibility Motion Runner’s first few stages also double as tutorial rounds for new players. The game features cutting-edge gesture – or more accurately "flick" – controls which set it apart from conventional run n’ jump platformers. This is approach makes the game as much about accuracy as it is about speed.

Motion Runner’s nuanced gameplay keeps always things fresh and varied. If players flick too gently their stick figure hero won’t clear his jumps. Flick too gently and players risk overshooting their landing. Simply put, control is the name of the game! The app’s gameplay is inspired by the rhythmic precision of the sport of Parkour. The game includes controls for players to walk, run, jump, and land effectively, and even gives gamers the freedom to spice up the action with trick moves like webster front flips, precision jumps, and even flying maneuvers among others. Motion Runner is addicting, engaging and delightfully intuitive to play. Surprisingly so much so that it may just become mobile gaming enthusiast’s favorite new gaming distraction. Best yet its so fun to play that everyone from casual players to hardcore gamers will find something they love.

walkout

media_1337012761683.png

grapevine-cottage today is pleased to announce walkout 1.0 for iPhone, a new app for sportive people who love walking, hiking, jogging or running to stay healthy and fit. The walkout app draws new motivation for the user by showing the walked path as a geometrical shape and encouraging him to run different shapes all the time. While this is a new concept, more and more runner find it just fun to do their run and see how the shape unfolds. This can applied in multiple different and creative ways:

* "run a heart" for your loved one
* "run a flower" for as a birthday gift
* Walk simple figures such as a square, circle, a house, etc.

Advanced usage:
* Walk your favorite street course and see for the first time how that actually looks like as a shape, then start to add streets which you never walked before to extend and complete the shape
* Train to walk a shape without looking at the screen – very difficult at the beginning, and more and more entertaining after some practice

As part of the motivation the app allows the user to share the "walked out" shapes with friends and family via email and twitter. This will also spark some competition between walkers and runners as to who can run the widest heart, or the most interesting shape, and so on. There is no option to cheat and insert tracks manually, the app only takes a track the user really walked.

As standard items for each walk the walkout app shows:
* Meters / km or miles for the track
* Duration of the total walk

Airman

media_1337012839240.png

Airman Version 1.3 was released by Amphisocial Ltd today and is available on the iPad 2, the iPhone 4 and 4s. Airman is a 3D flying and shooting game located in a fantasy 3D city built around world famous city landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Colosseum, Taj Mahal Sears Towers, Big Ben, Statue of Liberty and more.

The object of Airman is to shoot down enemy balloons, planes, accumulate points, avoid enemy fire and crashing, but that is not all. The game when played in a family or group setting provides entertainment for the spectators. This is due to the games unique use of Apple’s gyroscope feature. This requires the User to stand up and move as the Game simulates an environment where the User’s physical movement gives direction to the Plane. From a spectator’s perspective it appears as though the User is a cross between a dog chasing it’s tail and Quasimodo.

New in this version of Airman are Snipers. Snipers have been positioned in Balloons at Level 1 and 5. Level 5 is almost impossible. So we have introduced 2 modes of play but both are very difficult.

The leader board has been refreshed so all players will start at at zero.

A Word Of Caution: This game can make you dizzy as the enemy planes fly in clockwise and counter clockwise circuits.

TweetFlow

media_1337013032848.png

TweetFlow, the ‘second screen’ Twitter app, has recently been updated with a new layout for the iPad. TweetFlow is a full-screen Twitter visualizer that aims to be the easiest way of watching Twitter on an iPhone or iPad. No Twitter account is required to use the app. Simply type a keyword or hashtag into the search box and tweets will begin to flow onto the screen.

"TweetFlow is designed to be used as a second screen when watching your favorite TV show or sports event", said developer Darragh Moriarty. "Most Twitter apps are overloaded with complicated features, making it difficult to just watch live tweets about a particular topic. TweetFlow is designed for automated simplicity. Just search and let the live global commentary flow."

TweetFlow has a built-in web browser for following links in tweets. If a tweet contains a link to a photo, website or YouTube video, this can be easily viewed without needing to switch to an external app such as Safari or another Twitter app.

A major new feature in this latest update is the addition of native iPad support. A new layout has been designed for the iPad, maximizing usage of the available screen area. Up to nine tweets are shown on-screen simultaneously and a custom flip transition algorithm ensures the flow of tweets moves at a steady pace.

VCVCBC: The Ultimate Songwriting App

media_1337013964330.png

Okeedoke Studios today is thrilled to announce the immediate availability of "VCVCBC: The Ultimate Songwriting App," exclusively for iPad. VCVCBC is a revolutionary songwriting app that starts from any type of song element – lyrics, melody, chords or rhythm – culminating in a chord chart to share with your band or take into the studio for production.

The app is designed to help songwriters collect their ideas as quickly as possible. "I’ve got boxes of scrap paper with a few lines of lyrics or melody lines on them, and I’ve got hundreds of files that I’ve started in Reason, Logic or Pro Tools," said Ben Thornburg, Visionary of Okeedoke Studios. "I wanted a way to focus on the song itself without getting sidetracked by the music production side. VCVCBC does just that."

VCVCBC doesn’t require any musical proficiency. The melody mode can highlight a key and scale, but there’s no piano skill required. Instead of learning guitar chord positions, the app provides over 20 sets of common chord progressions. Any chord can be easily selected and dragged into a song. A rhythm can be recorded by tapping on common surfaces, like tabletops, chairs and steering wheels. The app suggests rhymes while writing lyrics as well.
