PDF Connoisseur – Kdan Enterprise iPad Edition

PDF Connoisseur, a well-rounded mobile reading application designed to meet growing business demands, has been featured as a "New and Noteworthy" Business app on the iPad App Store soon after its release. To celebrate PDF Connoisseur’s initial success, its developer, Kdan Mobile, has announced a special sale of the app for all iPad users. According to Kdan, the app was built upon the established fundamentals of the company’s much-praised PDF Reader series and has differentiated itself from myriads of competitors with its newly-introduced Text-to-Speech and Save-to-PDF features.

PDF Connoisseur has adopted the advanced technology that reads out the content of a PDF file in English, French, and German, with other languages including Chinese, Korean, and Japanese available as options for purchase in the next update. "We’re offering a solution to help business users manage their heavy reading loads. With TTS, you can utilize both the eyes and the ears to handle multiple tasks at a time, or you can simply count on your hearing to absorb information and relieve your eye strain," said Erwin Lin, CTO of Kdan Mobile.

PDF Connoisseur reads a variety of file formats, and with its powerful Save-to-PDF module, users are able to convert mainstream document types, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and iWork, to PDF. The converted files can be bookmarked, annotated, and read out using TTS consequently.

Independent developer Valentin Radu is happy to announce the release of Silvertune, the iPhone(R) and iPod touch(R) instrument tuner. Featuring a new, modern, pitch detection algorithm, Silvertune supports a wide range of woodwind, brass and bowed string instruments. Accurate to 1/100 of a semitone, the tuner is ready for professional use.

Silvertune aims to be easy to use, reliable, beautiful to look at and most important of all, accurate. "When I started to develop Silvertune, I knew from my previous experience with professional musicians, that it would have to be very accurate to fulfill their expectations. That’s why I didn’t use any of the traditional pitch detection algorithms" said Valentin.

The tuner has all the basic functionality included, but lacks some of the features other AppStore tuners have. "In my opinion, there are 3 major things that define a good tuner. It has to be accurate, it has to be easy to read and it has to be responsive and reliable. I focused my development efforts on those 3 things, leaving aside other less important features. Even so, Silvertune still offers basic options like, an adjustable A4 frequency or solfege notation", he explained.

App Hits

To help App Store shoppers quickly find the latest and hottest apps, HI Innovation LLC today announces that their top-rated iPad application, App Hits, is now available for the iPhone and iPod touch. The free discovery app, recently featured as a top 10 US Utilities app for the iPad, offers innovative and easy-to-use tools to help users zero in on exactly the apps they want to find. App Hits also shows users which apps are on sale, helping them save money during limited-time discounts on their favorite apps.

"App Hits makes it easy to find the perfect free or paid app." said Gordon Ching, Co-Founder of HI Innovation LLC. "The app has been very popular with iPad users, and we are excited to share App Hits with all iPhone and iPod touch users as well."

App Hits provides an intuitive interface, allowing users to easily filter and sort their searches according to which apps are on sale, new, hot, or top ranked. For example, users can choose to see just free apps, sort apps based on price drop, or order apps by the number of stars from user reviews.

Tapping on an app will load its full details and description. App Hits also shows important statistics, including recent rankings and price changes to help users make an informed buying decision. App information is refreshed on an hourly basis to ensure up-to-date content and quality listings.

Users agree that App Hits is beneficial in finding discounted or free apps. App Hits allows shoppers to sort apps that are currently on sale and see how much they are saving. Since all the apps featured on App Hits are in the top 400 for their category, users are able to download top quality apps for bargain prices.

A benefit of using App Hits that some users may not realize is the use of less bandwidth. App Hits provides users with the option to not load icons and images, which significantly lowers the amount of bandwidth used, making it easier for mobile users to browse lists regardless of what connection they are on. This makes it easier to shop for apps on an intermittent Wi-Fi or 3G connection.

Instead, players can use links and menus to navigate and interact with the game.

Game author Tim Hamilton wrote the game using Quest, free software which makes it easy for anybody to create a game with no prior programming experience. Quest creator Alex Warren then converted the game into an app for iOS and Android.

"I was a huge fan of Infocom’s text adventure games back in the 1980s", said Tim Hamilton. "I played most of them when they came out. I always wanted to make my own games but lacked the diligence to properly code such a venture. Quest was a brilliant find for me as it took care of all the details – it made it easy for me to write my own games. The latest version is now even easier to use, and more powerful."
