Game developer Metaversal Studios is celebrating one week after releasing its newest iPhone/iPod touch game "Updraft Jack". The free game debuted on January 9th and achieved over 70,000 App Store downloads in its first week, rising to the Top 100 Games and Top 200 Overall Apps.

"We had a great launch, and we’ve got a ton of new content on the way in the coming weeks," said Matt Sughrue, VP of Product Development at Metaversal Studios. "Player response to the game has been phenomenal. We’re looking forward to making ‘Updraft Jack’ even better with every update."

Metaversal Studios has already released version 1.1 of "Updraft Jack", an update that included the addition of a transitioning day-to-night cycle to enrich the player experience. The update also incorporated immediate user feedback on ease of use and improved the player interface layout.

The team at Metaversal has another update (version 1.2) scheduled to be released in the next week that adds new content to the game including additional player costumes, downloadable device wallpapers and more.

Vivendo Software today is thrilled to announce a new timer/stopwatch app called VersaTimer. As the name implies, this timer app is very versatile and offer many ways to customize the timer for specific needs. The unique rule system makes this app different from similar timer apps.

At the basic level, it works as a simple timer or stopwatch. In timer mode it can be set to play a sound when the timer reaches zero. You can also add an interval sound that will be played at a certain interval, like every minute. There are a selection of sounds to choose from, ranging from beep-sounds to alarms and fanfares. Instead of the sounds, the time that is left (or has passed) can be announced with speech.

At the most complex level the rule system comes in play and up to five rules can be defined. Each rule can play a different sound (or announce the time left/passed) at different intervals. Using rules, you can "build" the timer functionality that you need. You can for example have a timer that plays a sound every minute, then a different sound every 15 seconds for the last minute, and finally count down the last seconds from ten to one.

Timer settings and rules can be saved to a timer profile, and there is no limit to how many timer profiles you can save. Other functions are the repeat mode, where the timer will repeat the cycle once it reaches zero, and the "shake to start/stop" option, where the timer can be started or stopped by shaking your device – could be convenient when your hands are busy with other things.

Coil Devs today introduces Tristis 1.0 for iOS, their new cosmic, magic squares, logic game with four levels of play and more than 300,000 puzzles. Set against a background containing a rotating spiral galaxy amidst a twinkling starfield, players must solve 5×5 magic squares, where the sum of each row, column, or major diagonal equals 65. Purple tiles from 1 to 25 are dragged from the right to the left square and can be moved to any empty square at any time during gameplay. Purple number tiles can also be returned to the right square and stored until needed. At the start of play, the left square already contains some grey tiles, which are immovable because they are already in the correct position to solve the current magic square. Sums are automatically displayed along the top and left margins, immediately reflecting changes as users move tiles.

A popular puzzle in recreational mathematics for thousands of years, most magic squares seen in newspapers and magazines are of the simpler 3×3 or 4×4 variety. All the magic squares in Tristis are five cells wide and five cells high, with a total of 25 cells. Only one chip or tile can occupy a cell, and cells with grey tiles cannot be changed. All 5×5 magic squares have "65" as their magic number, and the five cells in every column always add up to 65, as do the five cells in every row, as well as the five cells in both major diagonals.

This game is a real challenge to player’s logical thought, although Two Towers is rather easy to understand and to play.
