With the popularity of mobile gaming on the rise, mobile phone users are always on the hunt for new and exciting titles to add to their gaming collection. Vivendo Software today is thrilled to announce a new timer/stopwatch app called VersaTimer. As the name implies, this timer app is very versatile and offer many ways to customize the timer for specific needs. The unique rule system makes this app different from similar timer apps.

At the basic level, it works as a simple timer or stopwatch. In timer mode it can be set to play a sound when the timer reaches zero. You can also add an interval sound that will be played at a certain interval, like every minute. There are a selection of sounds to choose from, ranging from beep-sounds to alarms and fanfares. Instead of the sounds, the time that is left (or has passed) can be announced with speech.

At the most complex level the rule system comes in play and up to five rules can be defined. Each rule can play a different sound (or announce the time left/passed) at different intervals. Using rules, you can "build" the timer functionality that you need. You can for example have a timer that plays a sound every minute, then a different sound every 15 seconds for the last minute, and finally count down the last seconds from ten to one.

Timer settings and rules can be saved to a timer profile, and there is no limit to how many timer profiles you can save. Other functions are the repeat mode, where the timer will repeat the cycle once it reaches zero, and the "shake to start/stop" option, where the timer can be started or stopped by shaking your device – could be convenient when your hands are busy with other things.

Independent developer Fidel Lainez, creator of the innovative app TiltShift Video, today is pleased to announce the release of VideoGrade, a color grading app for iOS. Taking advantage of the latest technologies introduced in iOS 5, VideoGrade allows to edit videos in a fast, easy and flexible way. Available for $1.99 on the App Store, the tools it provides can be used to adjust the video images in subtle ways, correcting problems like bad lightning, or to produce dramatic changes to achieve a cinematographic look. With eight different adjustments, the possibilities are endless.

All of the adjustments are highly configurable, providing a wide range of outputs; some of them feature an advanced mode that can be used to apply different transformations to each of the video areas (highlights, mid-tones or shadows), giving a great control over the final result.

The most immediate use for VideoGrade is to improve the image quality of the videos: it can easily correct frequent issues like bad lightning, poor contrast or incorrect white balance. The Recovery adjustment gives the possibility to selectively recover blown-out highlights or enlighten shadows, while the Color Temperature adjustment gives an easy way to correct wrong white balances.

Additionally, VideoGrade can be used to totally modify the look of the videos, changing their mood or giving them any of the cinematographic looks of the most popular films.

Coil Devs today introduces Tristis 1.0 for iOS, their new cosmic, magic squares, logic game with four levels of play and more than 300,000 puzzles. Set against a background containing a rotating spiral galaxy amidst a twinkling starfield, players must solve 5×5 magic squares, where the sum of each row, column, or major diagonal equals 65. Purple tiles from 1 to 25 are dragged from the right to the left square and can be moved to any empty square at any time during gameplay. Purple number tiles can also be returned to the right square and stored until needed. At the start of play, the left square already contains some grey tiles, which are immovable because they are already in the correct position to solve the current magic square. Sums are automatically displayed along the top and left margins, immediately reflecting changes as users move tiles.

A popular puzzle in recreational mathematics for thousands of years, most magic squares seen in newspapers and magazines are of the simpler 3×3 or 4×4 variety. All the magic squares in Tristis are five cells wide and five cells high, with a total of 25 cells. Only one chip or tile can occupy a cell, and cells with grey tiles cannot be changed. All 5×5 magic squares have "65" as their magic number, and the five cells in every column always add up to 65, as do the five cells in every row, as well as the five cells in both major diagonals.

FingerMusic Player

Appcon today is pleased to introduce FingerMusic Player 1.0 for iOS, their new Music player app designed to work without the user needing to look at the screen. The built-in, iOS Music Player app requires that the user touch a small forward arrow at the bottom of the screen to begin play, but FingerMusic Player lets the listener touch any part of the screen to start or stop music playback. The user can simply reach for their iDevice and start playback by touching any part of the screen with their thumb or other finger. Thousands of traffic accidents per day are related to the use of mobile devices while driving, and FingerMusic Player is the perfect solution for distraction free driving.

Ordinarily, the controls on the screens of iOS mobile devices provide a convenient, touch sensitive GUI. However, with hundreds of millions of people listening to music on such devices, there are bound to be times when operating ordinary touch controls is too distracting. Whether driving, cycling, jogging, or walking while listening to music, allowing one’s attention to be diverted to the touch controls on a small screen is risky, possibly dangerous behavior. FingerMusic Player completely eliminates the need to look away, however briefly, to start or stop music playback. The user can operate their device completely by touch, without looking away for a moment.

Touch control of the FingerMusic Player app includes start, stop, change track, and volume. Users can initially set the app for repeat or shuffle, and music playback resumes automatically after taking a call. For music lovers everywhere, this app, which turns the entire screen into a Play or Pause control, is the ideal way to safely enjoy their music while on the go.

Valentine Camera+

MobileChamps today is pleased to introduce Valentine Camera+ 1.0 for iOS/Android, their Photo & Video app that offers 20 different Valentine themed, lovely frames for photos shot on any camera-equipped iOS/Android mobile device. Photographers can see the subject inside the frame as they shoot, or they can put a lovely frame on any photo in their Photo Library. Offering four types of frames: Love Hearts, Red/Purple Roses, Rainbow of Lights, and Love Ornaments, the app produces memorable Valentine photos instantly that may be saved or shared via email, Facebook, or Twitter. MobileChamps is well known for its 50  iOS/Android apps and Valentine Camera  employs their latest technologies to achieve professional results easily.

On launch in portrait orientation the app displays four different rectangular frames, also in portrait orientation. The back facing camera is activated by default, and amazingly, all four frames contain the exact same camera view. Aimed and centered on a subject, the photographer can compare all four photos to select the best one, or they may shoot all four simultaneously, creating a kind of photographic tetraptych. There are five different pages of frames available, accessed by swiping right to left, and picture takers can sample all of them, scrolling the frames horizontally while viewing their subject in the camera viewer. Having decided on a single frame, the user just touches it, and the frame fills the screen, while the camera shutter button is ready in the bottom tab bar.

The results are remarkably good. There are no fuzzy borders where the frame and photo meet, and the colors are bright and true. Particularly impressive are the delicate wisps of roses and hearts that remain razor sharp as they gracefully frame the subject. Usually every rose has it’s thorn but, it seems, with this amazing app the users have only roses to indulge in. No thorns! Valentine frames have been selected after due deliberation and keeping in mind the taste of young and old alike. Included within several of the 20 different frames are built-in photo effects, such as: black and white, sepia, mirror images, etc.

BirdsCorp today is pleased to introduce AirForShare 1.0 for iOS, their free Productivity app that allows multiple users of iOS devices to wirelessly share text, links, and files between all their iOS and OSX devices that are on the same Wi-Fi network. Files can be shared not only across Apple OS devices, but also between Windows computers and mobile devices. Files to be shared are uploaded to the free, web-based, AirForShare server, where they can be downloaded without a password or registration by any user on the Wi-Fi LAN. An ideal wireless service for file sharing between local users, AirForShare is completely free, easy to use, cloud based, and ad free.

As an online clipboard service, AirForShare eliminates all the obstacles to instantaneous file sharing, including: wired connections, special software, licensing, registration, an email address, or sync functions such as those provided by iTunes. As long as mobile devices and computers are in proximity of the same Wi-Fi hotspot or network, they can trade files effortlessly.

AirForShare is a clipboard service intended to provide temporary storage of relatively small files. Uploaded text and files remain on the AirForShare server for only 30 minutes, and there is a maximum file size limitation of 5 MB (text and data files rarely approach this size, and most photos are less than 5 MB in a compressed format). Once files have been uploaded, they appear as labeled thumbnails, and users can choose to download any number of files. Of course, only compatible downloaded files can be opened, so Windows-only files types such as .exe will not open on Apple devices, and .qxd files will not open unless the user owns a copy of the QuarkXpress application. The most commonly seen file extensions (.pdf, .jpg, .txt, .gif, .mp3, etc.) can be shared without difficulty between devices and platforms.
