Budget-Bal, a new app for the iPhone market aims to take the tedious math out of the "money-in / money-out" juggling act, and make it easy to figure out how much money you’ll have on various days (while accounting for all the various transactions that have and will occur along the way).

Budget-Bal makes this task easy by doing all the math automatically. Users need only enter the expenses and income, and the due dates for each item. As items in the Transactions Table are shifted up or down, Budget-Bal does the heavy-lifting, and automatically recalculates the running balance for each item. The user can see – at a glance – what the running balance is at each transaction, and whether their budget is in the red, or black (literally).

In addition to making it easy to do budget forecasting, Budget-Bal can let users know when they need to be reminded of a task – pay a bill, transfer some funds, etc… It has not just one, but four built-in indicators that automatically display if an item is due within a couple of days, tomorrow, is already past due, or if there is no need to worry about it for at least a couple of days.

Finally, Budget-Bal is not limited to only knowing how to deal with dollars and cents. Budget-Bal automatically checks the region setting on the users’ iPhone, and editing and formatting of both date and currency information conform to the correct format for the device’s region setting.

Fuzzy Wuzzy and Other Tails

Two girls, ages 10 and 14, have published Fuzzy Wuzzy and Other Tails, a new interactive, animated ebook for the iPad and iPhone. Sarah Izatt (age 10), the author, connected with Megan Young (age 14), the illustrator, through My Tech High, an online charter school program that helps youth gain marketable technology skills. Using Gimp, a free graphic design program, combined with animation tools for ebook creation at TaleSpring, these girls created the book based on the old rhyme, "Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear…". Their story includes such characters as Chubby Wubby, Lucky Ducky, Lovey Dovey, Swimmy Kimmy, and more!

Example Features:
* Tap the bear to see his fur fly off
* See the sock-wearing turtle skate across the kitchen floor
* Watch the bunny push the honey pot off the table
* Open the treasure chest to see what animal is hiding inside
* Discover other hidden animals and sound effects throughout the book

Sarah will be demonstrating the book at the My Tech High Student Showcase, on 2 February 2012,  at the Novell Campus in Provo, UT.

Sarah’s story began with a visit from her Grandad who shared the original fuzzy wuzzy poem with her. Not too long after, she had prepared a little book made with stapled pieces of paper that not only included the original fuzzy wuzzy bear, but new verses about other animals. At the suggestion of her father, founder of TaleSpring, she began the work of refining the verses in preparation of making it into a TaleSpring interactive ebook.
