Zanther, Inc., creators of the immensely popular iPad application, Tapose, announced the first of four winners of a contest that aims to find the most creative usage of the app’s primary feature, Journals. Tapose received several other creative submissions for how users are using the Journal feature. Users showcased how they were planning the construction of a new green house, taken written & history notes in class, storyboarded short films, and recorded their elevator pitches to investors.

The first week’s winner of the $100 iTunes gift card is Charlie K., who has been using Tapose’s Journals to detail the birth of his first child, due later this year. VCVCBC is a revolutionary songwriting app that starts from any type of song element – lyrics, melody, chords or rhythm – culminating in a chord chart to share with your band or take into the studio for production.

The app is designed to help songwriters collect their ideas as quickly as possible. "I’ve got boxes of scrap paper with a few lines of lyrics or melody lines on them, and I’ve got hundreds of files that I’ve started in Reason, Logic or Pro Tools," said Ben Thornburg, Visionary of Okeedoke Studios. VCVCBC doesn’t require any musical proficiency. The melody mode can highlight a key and scale, but there’s no piano skill required. Instead of learning guitar chord positions, the app provides over 20 sets of common chord progressions. Any chord can be easily selected and dragged into a song. A rhythm can be recorded by tapping on common surfaces, like tabletops, chairs and steering wheels. The app suggests rhymes while writing lyrics as well.
