Easy ABC 123
Dyess Software today is pleased to introduce Easy ABC 123 (v1.0) for iPad. Students not engaged in learning over the summer months lose valuable skills in math and reading that can hold them back for the coming school year. Additionally, these losses are cumulative year over year. According to a report released by the Rand Corporation in 2011, children lose on average, a month of education in reading and math, every summer. This effect is cumulative. Over their entire high school career, this adds up to an entire year of education. Stimulating your child in reading and math is crucial to prevent a disadvantage in their scholastic careers.
Easy ABC 123 is designed to help prevent this knowledge drain by offering a entertaining, engaging app for the iPad for children at the K-5 (elementary) level. It helps kids learn and retain spelling and math skills through positive reinforcement, gradual progression through material, and an award system for achievements.
The app has 16 different games to play; 8 for spelling and letters (ABC), and 8 for numbers and math (123). Each game is slightly more difficult than the previous game, and the material of each game starts easy and gets progressively harder.
ABC games are based around 3 sets of 26 words starting from A to Z, and each set of words are progressively longer. The variety of vocabulary expands from common to curious with amazing photographs for reinforced recognition.
123 games include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, an introduction to numbers, a calculator and a free play game. 123 games include numbers from zero to twelve.
Wordflex Touch Dictionary
Designed exclusively for the iPad by the London-based company SchematiX, this revolutionary language resource – formerly known as the Twig Touch Dictionary, and now upgraded to version 1.1 – turns entries into expansive "word trees" that users can freely rearrange, manipulate and explore with touch gestures, shrinking and expanding information to maximize the screen’s workspace. With a single tap they can open tree nodes and "badges" containing definitions, origin data, detailed notes and more, or hear audio pronunciations (in both U.S. and U.K. English). Double-tapping enables the selection of any content and allows context-sensitive functions like bookmarking, expanding into a new tree or clipboard copying.
The semantically detailed word trees include synonyms and antonyms, adding a thesaurus function to the dictionary interface. Wordflex users can also create "word posters" of the entries for sharing on Facebook and Twitter or via e-mail or hard-copy print-outs.
Users can even introduce an element of chance to their learning with the random function, which simulates "flying through" language; words float on the screen like stars, waiting to be explored.
The Wordflex Touch Dictionary combines a physics-based mind-mapping engine with nearly 1GB of linguistic content from three Oxford University Press titles: The Oxford Dictionary of English (the foremost single-volume authority on the English language, with 355,000 words, phrases and definitions); The New Oxford American Dictionary (Oxford’s flagship dictionary of U.S. English); and The Oxford Thesaurus of English (the gold standard of comprehensive synonym and antonym resources). These titles are powered by Oxford’s extensive language-research program, including the Oxford English Corpus, which contains over 2 billion words of real 21st Century English.

Hasty Words
Honey Games, an independent software house is pleased to announce Hasty Words 1.0 for iOS, their latest game for the iPhone and iPod platforms. Hasty Words is a quick fire word game that supports a huge dictionary of over 250,000 words. Hasty Words is a unique game in that it uses one of the largest word dictionaries of any word game available today. When a word is completed the letter chips will disappear with a ‘pop’ and new chips will fall down the screen to replace them.
The object of the game is to score as highly as you can in the allotted time. There are two main strategies to building a high score – you can take the ‘speed’ approach and build as many short words as possible, or you can take the ‘length’ approach and build longer words that score more highly. Individual words are scored based on the letters used and including more obscure letters of the alphabet will result in higher word scores. Game Center is used to provide a worldwide leader board of the best scores.

Compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, as well as Android phones, Total Recall: A Memory Game challenges players to recall sequences of numbers, letters, and even randomly-placed bubbles. The game’s five categories will challenge users to recall increasingly long and fast sequences of numbers, letters, and bubbles. The first set of levels will require players to watch and repeat sequences of numbers on a dial pad. The second set replaces the numbers with letters, and the third set treats players to an even larger touchscreen grid containing the full alphabet. Players who master these trials can move on to the game’s most unique puzzles. The fourth set of levels challenges players to remember sequences involving immobile, unlabeled bubbles scattered randomly across the screen. To beat the fifth and final category, players must memorize patterns of fast-floating bubbles labeled with all of the letters of the alphabet.
Notebooks for iPad
Independent developer Alfons Schmid today is pleased to announce Notebooks 5 for iPhone and iPad, an update to his note creation and organization application. While Notebooks was originally designed to do away with paper notes, it has evolved into a suite of productivity apps and includes a text processor for plain text, rich text, and Markdown text, provides space to store and organize files and documents, and even supports complex task management.
Users can create beautifully formatted documents using WYSIWYG style editing, create formatted HTML using Markdown, or simply type plain text notes, and all while using custom fonts, colors, and patterns.

The Three Little Pigs
HORN Pictures today is pleased to announce The Three Little Pigs 1.1 for iOS, the latest in their StoryBean series of interactive children’s books. The story is illustrated using soft, hand-drawn pastels, whose palette and style have been carefully crafted to appeal to young children. Kids and parents can read together, or they can hear the text narration read aloud in English or Korean. The book emphasizes the empathic rather than the moralistic aspects of the classic fairy tale, allowing kids to enjoy the story’s universal appeal without overt advice about proper behavior.
With its carefully crafted, psychologically positive storytelling, narration, and illustrations, StoryBean gently carries the reader on an imaginative journey. The goal of the artists and writers who contributed to this new version of The Three Little Pigs was to stimulate the child‚s understanding and appreciation by means of identification and empathy. Given the nature of this well-known fable, they strived to go beyond the obvious and sometimes dogmatic moral by giving children an opportunity to interact with and personally experience the tale for themselves. Young children thus become naturally aware of the story‚s evolution and flow, grasping the plot twists through the eyes of the protagonists.
