Hello, I am Petyr Campos aged 55. I live in San Francisco, CA and I work as an IT Manager at a software company. I’ve been creating photography with the iPhone for at least 10 years now. I started using the iPhone for photography when my DSLR broke with the 2nd generation iPhone. I’ve segmented my work into three areas, concert photography, my surfer series I’ve been working on for 10 years and misc which includes everything else (i.e. abstract, street photography, conceptual, etc.)

I consider myself an opportunistic photographer, meaning I photograph things when they present the opportunity to me. I recall reading in a photo blog somewhere…”Photography is not about what you see, but HOW. you see it.” and I completely agree with that assessment. My goal when creating photographs is to create something that is unique, hopefully eye-catching, or tell a story when appropriate. I prefer to create a series of works that develop in breadth and creativity over time as opposed to one-off/stand-alone imagery.  For example, when photographing concerts, I try to use photographs of the musicians as a canvas to build upon and create something other than your typical concert photograph.

I recently decided after 10 years to retire from my surfer series of photographing surfers. I really enjoyed building out the series but feel there is nothing left to say and there are other areas of beach culture that I can photograph and build upon.

I’m currently working on building out a series of photographs specific to living in San Francisco and its culture that only locals would be familiar with such as street names, local hangouts off the beaten track, public transportation lines, etc. Basically, life in SF that all locals are familiar with.
