Becoming a Magnum photographer is what many photographers dream of and rightly so. It is one of the most prestigious photography co-operatives in the world. Each member has undergone a rigorous process of self-selection in order to become full members. Members include Elliott Erwitt, Martin Parr, Alec Soth, Tim Hetherington and there’s many more. The Photography Gala Awards, with the sponsorship of the Biennial of Fine Art & Documentary Photography invited women photographers worldwide to submit images to the Twelfth Edition of The Julia Margaret Cameron Award. This Award is open to women photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought. Traditional, contemporary, avant-garde, creative and experimental works that include old and new processes, mixed techniques, and challenging personal, emotional or political statements are welcomed. One late night this week, on the tube homeward bound, I was accosted by a couple. One sat purposefully too close to me, physical and personal boundaries abandoned, and the other, opposite, knocking knees. The woman, her head leaning on my shoulder, was stonned I would say and the man somewhat addled, suffering a huge headache, I was stone cold sober. Once they penetrated my wired vigilance I got chatting. She received a BA and an MA in English from Columbia College, where she taught a poetry workshop for several years after graduating. Huawei Mate20 Pro Celebration in London
On Tuesday 16 October, 2018 Huawei announced their latest smartphone the Mate20 Pro, we covered it here. Following the press event the star studded party was something else! Huawei held a celebration for the launch of the highly anticipated Mate 20 Pro smartphone. The star-studded bash was attended by a raft of celebrity talent eager to be part of the smartphone moment of the year. We are delighted to bring to you the eighth in our brand new series of interviews within our Portrait of an Artist column entitled “Seeing through the eyes…”. This is a section that has been created by our wonderful Portrait of an Artist Editor, Ile Mont. Mont has been inspired by the life and works of Carolyn Hall Young, as so many of us have.
