Brand New Smartphone Series from Huawei – Mate 20 Series
Tuesday, 16 October, 2018 was the worldwide launch of the new Huawei Mate 20 Series in London and of course, TheAppWhisperer was there! Held at the ExCel Centre it was the perfect location for such an incredible device. Building on the foundation of HUAWEI P20 Series’ camera system, Huawei have augmented the HUAWEI Mate 20 with a powerful addition namely the16mm Leica Ultra Wide Angle Lens. This wider perspective creates a sense of spaciousness and a three dimensional effect to the images. The new camera system also supports macro distance, which produces crisp images of objects that are placed as close as 2.5cm from the lens. The added ultra-wide angle…

Fully Featured Photoshop CC coming to the iPad
At Adobe MAX 2018 in Los Angeles, Adobe previewed Photoshop CC on iPad, however, we were granted a preview in early October, along with other members of the press. Adobe were keen to stress this is not a version, it has all the signature features including layers with no practical limit. We were shown an example with 200 layers. It is, of course, no real secret that Adobe has been working on a fully featured version of Photoshop for a while, a scaled back version for mobile devices has been available for sometime. However, while Photoshop CC on iPad shares the same underlying code as the desktop version, the interface has…

Tomorrow, I’ll be at the London launch of Huawei Technologies, latest mobile handset equipped with artificial intelligence (AI), as the company pushes itself at the high end amongst its rivals Samsung Electronics as well of course as Apple. Expected to be the most expensive Huawei phone to date, its rumoured it will ship with a Kirin 980 chip, expressly designed for AR functionality. This launch will be crucial to Huawei, this is going to be a top spec phone, with a high retail value, it has to succeed. I’ll be heading for brunch first at OXO2 and from there, I’ll be whisked to the ExCel Centre, where the press conference…
KickStarter – Pictar Pro | DSLR Your Smartphone
We’re always interested to learn about innovative mobile photography projects and this one from Miggo sounds particuarly interesting. They’ve developed a product, called the Pictar Pro that bridges the gap between a phone’s power and camera’s usability with a wide set of physical controls and software features. The cherry on top is the phenomenal user experience: a pleasure-to-touch polished metal grip and an unmatched front-loaded intuitive user interface. There’s a feature that particularly interests me, that’s the Pictar Pro Viewfinder. If you’re used to looking through camera viewfinders, or just find your smartphone screen too hard to see in bright light, then this could offer a great solution. The Picture…

Mobile Photography / Art – Saturday Poetry – “The Mothering Blackness” Maya Angelou with @findflorentine
This weeks Saturday Poetry, matched with mobile photography/art is entitled ‘The Mothering Blackness’ by Maya Angelou. With a firm root in African American history, many of Angelou’s poems, such as this one, can be traced to the work songs slaves sang. The repeating lines give the sense of a refrain, and varying line lengths and numbers of syllables give an improvised feel. Songs passed down orally, such as work songs, are often narratives: this poem tells the story of a girl running back to “the mothering blackness.” The regularly indented lines also give the impression that at least two voices are speaking, which would have been the case in work…
