iSights – ‘When Stupid Girls Use Smart Phones’ – by Janine Graf
We are so delighted to publish Janine Graf’s seventh article to her iSights Column with us. This time Janine shows off her movie recording skills utilizing Instagram’s brand new feature, don’t miss this, over to you Janine (foreword by Joanne Carter). Hi everybody! First of all I want to start by saying that I don’t actually believe I am stupid. I’m incredibly street smart, and that’s the best kind of smart (btw, that’s what stupid people say to make themselves feel better about not being book smart). I’ll have you all know that I do read books and watch the news. Sure, I lost some serious IQ points…
Vivian Maier: lost art of an urban photographer – On BBC One Tonight – June 25, 2013
I am a massive fan of Vivian Maier’s work and as the BBC point out, ‘She’s been called ‘the greatest photographer you’ve never heard of’… the mysterious Vivian Maier, a nanny based in Chicago who took about 150,000 photographs in her lifetime and stashed them away, not showing them to anyone. She left thousands not even developed, and most as negatives from which she never made prints. It was sheer accident that her life’s work was discovered. Two years before she died in 2009, Vivian Maier stopped paying the rent on five storage lockers in Chicago. Without her knowledge the contents were sold. At locker sales, you have to stand…
Snapchat – Photo Sharing App – Now Worth $800 Million
Launched in 2011 the developers behind the photo sharing app Snapchat have just secured around $60 million in fundng, according to Petapixel, this investment ‘pegs the value of the company at a staggering $800 million’. It’s a well known fact that the best ideas are the simple ones and Snapchat fits that remit. The purpose of the app is to transmit images to their friends mobile devices – but the ‘catch’ is that the photo only display for tens seconds or less – the app sends a notification message to the sender when the recipient screencaps the image. That’s it and believe it or not over 200 million snaps are…

Bob Weil has just dropped me a line to ask me to remind you all that today is the last day to enter the American Aperture Awards. See our original post here – they extended the deadline to 24th from 17th June 2013. Bob Weil and Daria Polichetti (iPhoneArt.com) are jurors for the mobile component of the American Aperture Awards. It is not primarily a mobile arts competition. Founded by Chris Davies, the publisher of Fabrik Magazine in LA (a former LA photography gallery owner) and a select collection of art books, AX3 should be an interesting new addition to the cross-genre photography exhibition scene. I’m sure looking forward to…
