We are so excited with our latest Instagram TAKEOVER this time with @coeiphoneart – Gerry Coe. Coe is an Internationally acclaimed Portrait Photographer, working in Northern Ireland known for both his Award winning Portraiture and his Fine Art images.

He is a Fellow of each of the four main photographic organisations including the British Institute of Professional Photographers, Master Photographers Association, Royal Photographic Society and the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers and he has just recently received his Second Fellowship from the BIPP for his much acclaimed iPhone Photography images. This is the first time anyone, anywhere has achieved a Fellowship in iPhone or Mobile Photography. He is the first Double Fellow of the BIPP in Ireland and one of a very small group of double Fellows worldwide. Recently he was also awarded an honourary fellowship from the BIPP, this is a rare award only 20 of these have been awarded in the 140 year history of the BIPP.

Please take a look at our @TheAppWhisperer Instagram account to follow all the goings on and please also tag your images with #TheAppWhisperer, so that they can be found and potentially featured.

He writes:

“@coeiphoneart Day 6, today’s choice is an image by @odinvadim – Vadim Demjianov. This snow scene looks like a Victorian postcard. It has been beautifully captured with a lovely soft light coming across the scene. To my eye there has been very little manipulation of the image apart I suspect the warm glow. I think this shows you don’t need lots of extra textures to have a great photograph. Well done.

@coeiphoneart Day7 street portraits are always popular and this one by @ilanaakoundi – Ilana Akoundi intrigues me I love the play of shadows on the wall. The added bonus is the person walking across the scene who has his hand up as if shading his eyes.

@coeiphoneart Day 8. Fascinating image by @dleibo  – David Scott Leibowitz, so many stories and questions. The woman in the white dress helping her child climb around the wall, the guitar is it hers or does it belong to someone else we can’t see. The photographer is she taking a picture of them, or of the building. The woman sitting at the top of the steps, is she counting her money or sorting out things in her bag? And the man walking into the scene. A superb image.

@coeiphoneart Day 9 A superb monochrome image by @allophile_ – Joseph Cyr, I love the textures and strong lighting. The footprints coming across the picture breaking up the pattern in the sand where they meet up with the shadow which brings your eye back to the tufts of grass, then you start the journey again. A simple image but full of drama”.

“Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still.” Dorothea Lange

Hello everyone!

Thank you all for submitting your images to our StreetWise Flickr group during the month of March.  All we can say is “wow!” What incredible images submitted to our group from around the world. It is such an honor to share the showcases with you.

Once again, our difficult challenge was to choose such few images for the showcase from all those that were submitted and we want you to know we appreciate each and every post.

As a reminder, we choose images for the showcase that are in keeping with our group’s intention and guidelines focusing on the key aspects of street photography  composition, timing, juxtaposition, catching the decisive moment  rather than relying too much on apping or images that are more art oriented or painterly.

If you are a mobile street photographer, please consider joining our growing community.

To those new to our street photography community, welcome – it is great to have you join us!

“Animals are such agreeable friends  they ask no questions, they pass no criticism.” George Eliot

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to our Ninth StreetWise Challenge Showcase  ‘Animals in the Street.’ We are thrilled to share it with you!

Thank you so much for participating and sharing your wonderful photographs. Lee and I were delighted by all the beautiful submissions to this fun challenge. It was particularly fascinating for us to see how animals interact with us and in the streets in neighbourhoods from around the world.

As always, Lee and I hope you enjoy the showcase as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

A reminder — we choose images for the showcase that are in keeping with our group intention and guidelines  “We believe that it is important to focus on the key aspects of street photography  composition, timing, juxtaposition, catching the decisive moment  rather than relying on too much apping. We therefore feel that apping should be kept to a minimum  cropping, tweaking exposure, colour, adding a grain or texture is okay, but we would like to see you steer away from overly app’ed images that are more art oriented or painterly.”

Mobile Photography – StreetWise – Eighth Challenge – ‘People Working in the Street’

Hello Everyone!

The theme of our next challenge is ‘People Working in the Street’

The question is not what you look at, but what you see” Henry Thoreau.

This is a popular theme and for good reason — people are at work everywhere on the street.

In our daily lives, we see folks in uniforms working for local municipalities on the street, such as policemen and women, traffic officers, school crossing guards, street cleaners to name just a few. Others sell things on the street from clothing and accessories to fruits and veggies, books, or anything at all. People work in ways that can be seen from the street, in a storefront window or a newspaper stand. Nowadays, the food truck or cart is ubiquitous and one can find people at work selling all sorts of delicious things to eat  the ice cream truck is a favorite! Still, others are musicians, singers, or some kind of performers working their magic on the street.

The streets are filled with people who, in one form or another, are doing a job. We thought it would be interesting to capture and incorporate people who work in the street into photographs for this challenge, and the options are wonderful and endless!

We are very excited to view your submissions each month and look forward to curating your photographs for this next ‘People working in the Street’ showcase.

A recap of our rules and procedure for entry:

For the challenge please only post FOUR photographs to our Flickr challenge site on the link below, and in your title description include ‘People Working in the Street’.
