T-Mobile’s Exclusivity iPhone Contract In Germany Coming To An End
According to the WSJ today, Deutsche Telekom AG will lose exclusivity for the iPhone just ahead of the holiday season. Now Vodafone Group and Telefonica SA’s 02 will start selling it along with Deutsche Telekom, (T-Mobile).
It has been reported that the matter has not been completely finalized yet but is at an advanced stage. The contract with Deutsche Telekom will most probably end this October. Germany is the last major European market in which one provider has exclusive rights to sell the iPhone. Deutsche Telekom had sold at total of 1.9 million iPhones in Germany as of June 30, this is despite customers having to wait up to nine weeks for the iPhone 4.
In the UK, O2 lost exclusivity ahead of last year’s holiday season, while in France the market opened up to rivals of France Télécom SA’s Orange after a legal ruling.
