StreetVIEW – ‘Polaroids Of A Winter Day’ By Laura Peischl

We’re delighted to publish Laura Peischl’s second article to her brand new StreetVIEW Column. This time Laura warms us and teases our emotions with a series of outstanding winter beach images. We have set this video to the music that Laura wanted to accompany it and it works so well. Over to you Laura… (foreword by Joanne Carter).

“I don’t know about you, but I must declare myself a total addict to sunlight and heat and… as a logical consequence, to summer. Oh, j u s t b y w r i t i n g d o w n t h i s w o r d, myriads of smells, feelings, and images come into my mind’s eye and I involuntarily start counting the months left till the next one.

December and the approaching end of the year feel somehow like I made it halfway through winter and I vision the first day of the new year as the first step on the path to a brand new summer.

Dark winter days never gave me anything to look forward to, except for the smell of smoke coming out the chimneys and the pleasure of reading; snugged up in front of the fire place with a glass of red wine by my side is the best part of winter. BUT, I have to be fair and admit that there is something else I deeply enjoy in winter and this is the winter sun. “What a surprise,” I can hear you thinking….

Sunny winter days have something unpredictable, an element of surprise that has the power to mess up all your day, to confuse your feelings making you want to break out of your routine and just be outside. They fire the imagination, make you feel like a child that just went on holiday; they smell fresh and crisp, and everything seems possible all of a sudden.

These days are like magic doors for me, suddenly opening while I absently and emotionless walk through the grey corridor of winter. They have that special sweetness of stolen moments that one enjoys even more, knowing they will not last long enough to become routine.

I love taking pics in the winter sun, the light has a different texture, it is strong and yet so smooth, like golden honey in a jar. I chose to use the ShakeIt app as I think that the Polaroid feel blends perfect with it and adds that extra warm and nostalgic feeling to the images.

Enjoy “Polaroids of a Winter Day”!

Photographs are taken with ProCamera and processed with ShakeIt app and Snapseed
