Mobile Movies Showcase – Week 13 – By Donna Donato

Welcome back to the thirteenth article in our fabulous new Column, Mobile Movies. We at TheAppWhisperer have been inspired by the Flickr upgrade of 1 Terabyte of storage for everyone and have been wanting to launch a mobile movie section for some time. Now seems to be perfect, the new Flickr upgrade will allow for a full 3 minutes of 1080p HD quality video per single film and you can have as many as you have storage space for. Each week I (you can find me on Flickr here) will curate the movie uploads to our new Flickr group –MobileMoviesTheAppWhisperer – I will view all the videos uploaded and comment on the chosen ones.

”The internet has created other crossroads for films and videos. Mobile devices have democratized not only photography but also video-making. The availability of apps that give digital video the appearance of analogy film, such as grainy black and white super-8, is exciting and important. Now anyone with the desire can make a home movie or ‘film’ and upload it to the web. It is interesting to see what stories and messages people are creating and disseminating.’

All of the entries were either shot or created on mobile devices.

Here is TheAppWhisperer’s video showcase for October 5, 2013. We would like to thank this week’s contributors: Poetic Medium, anders_1960, olivierbxl_Olivier, Capt. John_Capt. John’s iPhonography and Christian Margarita_Frelu for their submissions.  Take a look at these latest gems; you’ll be glad you did.  Please share our Column with your family and friends, encouraging them to create and submit their mobile videos. We are seeking all platforms, Windows, Android, iOS… Joanne Carter and I will also be scouring the web in search of mobiles movies to present to our readers.

‘Warhol – Silver Clouds’ – Poetic Medium

Flickr link

Poetic Medium offers a somewhat spacey image combined with a sometimes 1950s sounding horror film music track to create a hypnotic video.  It was nice to watch the ‘clouds’ float by, billowing and flattening.

‘Night timelapse, dusk and stars ’ – olivierbxl_Olivier

Flickr link

Really enjoyed watching late evening turn to night, seeing the heaven full of stars and noting the movement of the moon or Venus across the sky. I often find myself excited when I notice stars because living in an urban area with so much ambient light the night sky is mostly obscured. I miss seeing the canopy of the night’s skylight.  My one question, were all those shooting stars real or added in post?

‘IMG_2773’ – Capt. John_Capt. John’s iPhonography

At some time or another most of us long to fly free as a bird. This video allows you to do just that. Listen to fast pace piano music as you fly above the water alongside a bird.

‘CUT-TIN‘ – Christian Margarita_Frelu

Flickr link

‘CUT-TIN’ is a silent video that allows the viewer to give his/her interpretation of the action. At times I felt I was watching a flaming pinwheel or a sparkler and fireworks display through the large end of a funnel. At other times it felt like some type of signaling system.  Regardless of what you see, it’s well worth a watch.

Donna is an image-maker, historian by training and a film/video editor by vocation. From a very early age she was smitten with images of all kinds. Donna absolutely loves film and filmmaking. Currently she lives in Paris, a city that has had a long and passionate love affair with ‘the movies’ and is one of the crossroads for world cinema.

No problem 🙂 I replied to your nice email !

There seem to be a problem with the link of my video because it now shows a newer one I posted after the stars time lapse.
