hEAdoN Photo Festival with Ben Lowy

Head On turns the city of Sydney into a living cross-section of cutting edge photography and video media. Exhibiting across all genres and experiences, Head On is a platform for the passion of the photographers, the excitement of the audiences, the beauty of the medium and the issues photography addresses.

Head On is a bridge between Australian and International photographic markets. In 2014 alone, Head On exhibited 55 artists from 18 countries. Festival tours in America, China and New Zealand introduced the international photographic elite and audiences in excess of 500, 000 to the wealth of photographic talent Australia possess with great acclaim.

There’s a fabulous masterclass workshop entitled ‘creating and packaging your visual story’, led by Getty Images Photographer Benjamin Lowy, LA Times Chief Photographer Michael Robinson Chávez and Facebook Pages picture editor Marvi Lacar- this dynamic trio brings together over 40 years of knowledge garnered from the top of the industry.

From freelance to commercial to conceptual, conceptualising to marketing, these industry legends have been through every step of the process- and will help you to do the same.

This hands on workshop is suitable for photographers with a body of work at any stage of development; all experience levels welcome.

Participants will learn about the steps involved in planning and creating a major body of work:

  • Identifying what you want from your photography
  • Focussing your ideas into a workable project
  • Realising your vision
  • How to best use the work you have produced, whether it be for the purposes of an exhibition, editorial publication or a book

Participants need to bring a portfolio of 10-30 images (can be as prints or electronic form in jpegs only on a USB so they can be projected onto a screen and viewed). The work will projected and discussed by all of the tutors and the group.
