Mobile Photography and Art – A Second Picture’s Worth with Bruce Barrett from New York, United States
‘A Picture’s Worth‘… is where we ask mobile photographers that have created powerful mobile photography/art to explain the processes they took. This includes their initial thoughts as to what they wanted to create, why they wanted to create it, how they created it, including all apps used and what they wanted to convey. We also ask these incredible artists to explain their emotions and how the image projects those feelings. We have published a few A Picture’s Worth articles recently, if you have missed those – please go here.
In this, our second ‘A Picture’s Worth’ with Bruce Barrett from New York, we asked him to tell us more about this image Barrett has detailed his thoughts below, we think you’ll find this invaluable…
“This picture was taken on a very rainy summer day last year. Looking from my kitchen window to the backyard, I was daydreaming listening to the rain. The pattern of the sounds it made, became colors in my mind . Because the sounds were soft, I wanted the picture to have the same feel with a watery blend.
I photographed with my iPhone 6s Plus. Although the screen is large on this iPhone, I find I need a bit more visual room, so I moved the image to my iPad. There I used mainly iColorama and a bit of Snapseed to achieve what I was looking for. Sounds can be colors for you as well.
One of my favorite quotes is from Thoreau…”It’s not what you look at, but what you see.” This was very applicable in this instance. What I looked at was a dreary, rainy tableau. What I saw and visualized was entirely different.
I try to keep his words in my mind for times when I need some inspiration”.
