Mobile Photography & Art My Top Five Apps by Robin Cohen from Los Angeles, United States
We are revitalising our Top Five Apps section to our Photo App Lounge column. This a section within TheAppWhisperer where we ask highly accomplished mobile photographers and artists to list their top five apps and to explain why they have selected them. Kicking us off today is accomplished mobile photographer and artist Robin Cohen from Los Angeles, United States. Take a look at her Top Five Apps… (foreword by Joanne Carter)
“Mobile apps are a feast for my imagination. I like to play with many different apps, but there are certain apps that are always a central part of my process…”
iColorama
This is my go-to app. I’m truly addicted to it. iColorama is complex, and like photoshop, it provides the tools for you to manifest effects in very personalised and inventive ways. While there is a learning curve (not because it is hard, but because there is so much to access), you can get great help and inspiration from the developer and all of the other artists who use it at the “iColorama&Metabrush Facebook page. The developer is constantly updating and adding really creative tools.
DepthEffects (now known as PortraitCam)
I love BOKEH and blur!!! When I can’t shoot natural bokeh, I’m happy to make some. BrainFever makes several bokeh apps, like Swrly, Anamorphic, and GlassTiltshift, which are similar. I find DepthEffects offers the most versatility.
Bluristic
Many people have listed Slow Shutter as one of their five apps, and I agree, it is a favourite blur camera for me as well. So I want to introduce you to one that is less known, but also helps create fascinating long exposure blurs. It allows you to keep one area in focus, and motion blur the rest, which creates panning, as well as other unique effects.
Formulas/Stackables
These two go together. Stackables allows you create delicious texture presets. Formulas loads your Stackables presets so that you can access them and apply as little or as much of each as you want. Additionally, Formulas provides a beautiful set of their presets. You can layer the various presets in any way you want.
DistressedFX
is a wonderful delight filled with stunning textures and elements. In particular, I love the rich cloud textures, as well as the great variety of bird and tree elements.
