I believe there’s now a universal dilemma we suffer, that feels like a personal problem. We all have so many friends, just look on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, they’re all there but yet so many of us wander ‘lonely as a cloud’ and feel disconnected from our species. I believe it’s important not to collect friends, like trophies but truly value the ones that enhance our lives, bring smiles to our faces and warmth to our hearts. Mobile Photography & Art – The Quilt Project at The Kemp Center for the Arts in Texas, United States
Yesterday, our community mobile photography and art travelling quilt was fixed for display, for the first time, at The Kemp Center for the Arts in Texas, United States. In this photograph (below) you can see mobile artist, Lorenka Campos standing next to this hand sewn gorgeous project. Each square represents artwork from one artist and there are 234 squares. I am particularly proud of ‘my’ square, as I share it with our dear friend and huge supporter of mobile art, Carolyn Hall Young. Mobile photography has capsulated self portraiture, or selfies as they are known. Offering the ultimate notion of control, you’re not trusting someone else to capture you, you’re deciding how to frame yourself, you’re not relying on someone else to make you look good. The paradox at the heart of selfies is that they masquerade as a candid shot but in reality they are posed and often heavily edited. But at least for the younger audience, looking good, is not good enough, you need to look good in extreme scenarios. 12th Julia Margaret Cameron Award – Results Announced
The Photography Gala Awards, with the sponsorship of the Biennial of Fine Art & Documentary Photography invited women photographers worldwide to submit images to the Twelfth Edition of The Julia Margaret Cameron Award. This Award is open to women photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought. Traditional, contemporary, avant-garde, creative and experimental works that include old and new processes, mixed techniques, and challenging personal, emotional or political statements are welcomed. One late night this week, on the tube homeward bound, I was accosted by a couple. One sat purposefully too close to me, physical and personal boundaries abandoned, and the other, opposite, knocking knees. The woman, her head leaning on my shoulder, was stonned I would say and the man somewhat addled, suffering a huge headache, I was stone cold sober. Once they penetrated my wired vigilance I got chatting. Apparently, they had mistaken me for Rosemary Bennett, The Times, Social Affairs Correspondent but they couldn’t quite marry up my constrained chronological age and hers.
