Beloved, by Toni Morrison is one book that I read as a teenager, that really stayed with me. I believe there’s now a universal dilemma we suffer, that feels like a personal problem. We all have so many friends, just look on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, they’re all there but yet so many of us wander ‘lonely as a cloud’ and feel disconnected from our species. I believe it’s important not to collect friends, like trophies but truly value the ones that enhance our lives, bring smiles to our faces and warmth to our hearts. One late night this week, on the tube homeward bound, I was accosted by a couple. One sat purposefully too close to me, physical and personal boundaries abandoned, and the other, opposite, knocking knees. The woman, her head leaning on my shoulder, was stonned I would say and the man somewhat addled, suffering a huge headache, I was stone cold sober. Once they penetrated my wired vigilance I got chatting. Apparently, they had mistaken me for Rosemary Bennett, The Times, Social Affairs Correspondent but they couldn’t quite marry up my constrained chronological age and hers. ‘The Big Picture’ is an idiom we use for a number of expressions. As a noun, it may mean the overall scheme of something important, as opposed to the significant details. As an adjective it can be used to describe a scheme, such as ‘these are big picture projections, we’ll sort the details out later”. We also use it informally in conversation, such as one I was having with my eldest son this morning over breakfast, (he’s home from university). One of the many things I love about curating, producing and publishing our Mobile Photography & Art Flickr Group Showcase is it offers me the facility to tap into these talented artists lives. Many of the artists that we profile each Sunday morning are extraordinarily prolific with their art and when viewing the showcase, each image doesn’t stand on its own, more so as together, context is all. The more you move among the pictures, shifting back and forrth, the more your sense of mobile photography and art deepens, expanding by the moment.
