New iPad Same Camera Sensor

MacRumors are reporting that following iFixit’s tear down of the third generation iPad that ‘the most interesting – though perhaps unsurprising – discovery is that Apple has apparently reused cameras from prior products for both the front and rear cameras on the new iPad’.

If you look at the image of the camera below, it is apparently the same 5 megapixel CMOS Image Sensor that was used in the iPhone 4.

The front camera in the new third generation iPad is the 0.3 megapixel Omnivision unit that is also in the iPad 2.

By recycling as many parts as they can Apple can keep their costs down and profits up, of course.
