I began again, after lovemaking, to experience the sense of heightened interconnectedness, which Romantic poets and Painters called ‘the Sublime.” Ah yes, another week and another book, this time ‘Vagina: A New Biography’ by Naomi Wolf, it’s not actually new, I’m just a little late to this particular party. So… yes, Wolf explains that during orgasm, she achieved the ability ‘to see ‘colours as if they were brighter‘. This was actually, until she started having a bit of trouble altogether and determined to pursue the matter, following a trip to her gynaecologist and then to New York’s finest neurologist, she was diagnosed with a mild form of spina bifida, essentially, her spinal column was compressing the branch of her pelvic nerve that ends in her vaginal canal. This was surgically corrected and before long she was back to her orgasmic best. Which is fabulous, what a relief but I was really more interested in straddling two worlds. Visualising art with increased creativity and sexuality. As I delved deeper, both these effects are well documented in scientific literature, hyper-sexuality results in an increase in creativity. Well, if Harold Brodkey’s ‘Innocence’ is anything to go by, as creative text morphs into creative imagery, yes, there’s sacramental beauty in all that we do, there’s deep joy, in fact the whole shebang is demonstrated in this weeks mobile photography and art showcase. Enjoy!

I love literature almost as much as I love visual art and this week I’ve been indulging in ‘The Letters of Sylvia Plath: Volume II, 1956-1963, edited by Peter K Steinberg and Karen Kukil. The relationship between Ted Huges and Sylvia Plath as we know, was astonishing in its intensity and Plath’s letters, deeply private. The tragedy of their lives is no more acute when you consider what could have been, two immensely gifted poets, who found each other and then literally tore each other apart. Hughes who cheated not only physically but emotionally published poems which Plath discovered, each one a passionate love poem to his lover, ‘describing their orgasms, her ivory body, her smell, her beauty’ and then expressing in a ‘world of beauties he married a hag’. To Plath ‘the knowledge that I am ugly and hateful kills me’. Physically, it’s now known that not only did Plath suffer a miscarriage in February 1961 but her letters reveal the reason, ‘Ted beat me up physically a couple of days before my miscarriage’. How is it that two people, so, on the surface perfectly suited, could penetrate their hatred so intensely within one another? No one is normal but has humanity learned nothing? And thus, I flung myself back into the beautiful world of mobile photography and art, such an evolving and vivid transition. This week I have carefully compiled an extraordinary variety of images as we continue our own revolution in art. When you play this film, you’ll discover a show with a very pure and simple focus: the spectacle being, our radical new way of making art. Enjoy!

Mobile Photography and Art, to me, is about, among other things, interconnectedness of our lives, about what we choose to see and ignore as we move through our own worlds, about the power of small acts of decency. Our shared vision is so vivid and multilayered enabling what we produce to become something more than remarkable. The real joy in this weeks Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group Showcase, is the relentlessly compelling and extraordinary portrayal of lasting beauty. I have tried to create an atmosphere offering privileged access into multiple spheres of existence, discovering the secret languages of each work of art, conferring dignity and consequence with each image and the artists behind them, who too often pass unseen and unrecorded in our accounts of contemporary life. Enjoy!

A choreographed multimedia showcase devised with over thirty of the very best mobile photographers and artists from around the world today. This week we bring you an intense mystical piece, one that forcefully confronts our frailty, as we lurch poleaxed by grief from one image, only to be reanimated with cryptic, expressionistic neoclassical, to the next. Viewing this is a raw process, as is our capacity to create a new life and redefine what an artist means, simultaneously navigating modern life and all of its entails…Enjoy!

Photographer, Mary McCartney (Paul’s daughter), with whom I used to work at a London photo agency said, I’m embarrassed to say that my main camera is my iPhone”. That’s not to say she doesn’t use 35 mm film, a Leica in fact, or a DSLR, even a Polaroid, but what she loves about her iPhone is ‘how immediate it is‘. Contrasing with Grayson Perry, artist confession, ‘the cameraphone has made the forest of glowing screens ubiquitous in museums, galleries and at events. Maybe I’m a snob, but it’s put me off photography’. We take thousands and thousands of pictures, every single day, do we treasure them? Some we do, each represents the power of time, mortality and memory, in essence, the power of photography. It’s very nature, evokes like no other art form, the split second, already spent…

Enjoy this weeks Mobile Photography and Art Showcase, a few minutes [for you], of time very well spent.

Just as a tailor sews secret messages into garments, the wise will know that everything that I do always has more than one purpose, reason and meaning. There’s not one interview, article or showcase that doesn’t reflect this throughout TheAppWhisperer.  My mind works in a multitasking constant, when viewing each Mobile Photography Showcase, as well as the order of the works, the music serves as a complement and also adds a surrogate meaning, to another event, always directed towards a chic other. And what you’ll notice from the swooning imagery in this weeks showcase, is a oedipal gothic romance, layered and layered with depth. It’s a tale of young cherished love, secret messages, with crisp visuals and a magnificent score. View it as a cinematic film, mobile art is on phosphorescent form here, capturing the delicate balance between the shifting moods. This showcase will capture your attention, engage your sympathies and steal your heart. Enjoy!

This weeks Mobile Photography and Art Flickr Group Showcase is beautifully variegated with each image, slowly dissolving into the next. But this is no means a dillydally, this is sumptuous art that has been carefully created throughout the week. This art is bound by love, my love, “Love is the emblem of eternity; it confounds all notion of time; effaces all memory of a beginning, all fear of an end”, wrote the Swiss author Madame de Staël (1766-1817). Enjoy!

‘How to fail’ is a podcast series by journalist and novelist Elizabeth Day, whereupon she interviews celebrities and asks them to list three examples, demonstrating their  failures in life. Perhaps, not surprisingly, men somewhat balked at the idea that they’d failed at anything and when pressed, admitted to losing tennis matches, or the inability to get souffles to rise, whereas women confessed they had trouble limiting the list to just three failures. Naturally, my thoughts drifted to my own failures, where to start… trying too hard to find love as a teenager complete with ‘mistakes’…, not selling my first cottage before the property crash in 1990 when I was 21, progressing too soon with pregnancy following major liver surgery, I could go on, of course. Day explains “the only way to survive [life crises] is to surrender to the process”. Like Day, it dawned on me that I had my work and I am lucky because my work here at TheAppWhisperer, comfortably means I am never fully alone, I always have the most gracious company, by my side. And you’ll see them in his weeks’ Mobile Photography & Art showcase, a glowing example of true, dear artists. And, actually, when looking at my failures, I could also see my successes, which curiously ran alongside. Had I not been so starved of love as a young girl, I may not have met the man that I married, who worships, not only ever area of my physical body, but also my mind, he is my nourishment, he is my strength. Had I indeed sold my cottage in 1990, then I would not have had a place to rehabilitate, following major life saving liver surgery in 1993. Had I not become pregnant in late 1995, my dear son, Jake would not be here, with us today. The riches of life can sometimes only be learned from our failures. As Day who listed divorce as one her failures explained, as she folded her wedding dress into a box, wrapping it carefully in layers of tissue paper for the nice woman in Shropshire who had bought it on eBay realised, this wasn’t failure at all, it was a part of life, she had learned from it and now she was letting it go, the failure had departed, the creator had returned.

Enjoy this triumph of a showcase, each singular image has the capacity to provoke and to surprise, each one, full of life.
