ClockMaster 1.0

Developed in close cooperation with expert antiquarian horologist J. K. Schmidt, ClockMaster enables the measurement and adjustment of mechanical pendulum clocks through a two-step process. The first step is calibrating the microphone and clock beat. The internal iPhone mic provides sufficient accuracy and sensitivity, but an external mic is recommended for professional use. The miniature mic included with iPhone earbuds works well, the Griffin SmartTalk external mic is better, and a specially adapted piezo-acoustic sensor is best. Irrespective of the mic employed, the longer the test sample (a minimum of 10 minutes is recommended), the more stable and accurate the Error Rate measurement.

Touching the Calibration button brings up the Beats Per Minute window that displays BPM, as well as the delta value, a measurement of the maximum irregularity between beats. Also displayed is a variable, mic sensitivity control and five squares that light in sequence with each tick. The tester must minimize extraneous noise, locate the best location for the mic being employed, and optimize the mic sensitivity so that each tick lights only one square, and no ticks are missed. Once the mic is properly placed and adjusted, the goal is to reduce the delta to as close to zero as possible. This procedure, known as putting the clock in beat, is accomplished by slightly altering the clock’s leveling, or offset.

1 And Only 1 Clue

1 And Only 1 Clue is an ideal example of a very simple premise being fully developed and executed. In easy mode the board consists of a 4 x 3 matrix of pictures in colored squares. The pictures are all of the same theme or category: animals, electronics, emotions, fruit, instruments, landmarks, professions, sports, or vehicles. Each game consists of a number of rounds, and a round counter decrements as gameplay proceeds. There is also a game clock that increments minutes/seconds as play continues. Incorrect guesses add ten seconds to the clock. The goal is to complete all the rounds of the game with the lowest clock time.

The game engages the mind on two levels simultaneously: players must consider both color and number of pictures when making matches. If the clue is 1 green square, 1 red square, and 1 blue square, the player must do a color search and then filter the results using a number search. For example, the player may begin by locating all the pictures in a green square. Then, they may filter those results by locating all those pictures that occur in both green AND red squares. Finally, results are filtered to locate the single picture that occurs in green AND red AND blue squares, but NOT any others. This exercises and entertains not only short-term, working memory, but also object and pattern recognition.

Praised for a unique and polished user interface backed by solid, useful features, The Cartographer has been well received by the design and developer community. Technical innovation news firm VentureBeat recently wrote, "It’s one of those rare apps that make you sit up and take notice at first, thanks to its unique design and emphasis on usability, but remains consistently useful by delivering features you’ll use often."

Animal Stickers

Mind Juice Media today has announced the release of Animal Stickers 1.1 for iPad. "Animal Stickers" provides an interactive virtual sticker book for kids. With a traditional sticker book, kids only get to use each background page and each sticker once, and all they can do is change the position and orientation of the sticker. Once the stickers are set in position, that’s it. They can often be difficult or impossible to move without tearing.

"Animal Stickers" solves all of these problems, and provides many other benefits. Kids can:
* Choose a background image (and then change it easily at any time)
* Drag and drop multiple copies of the same sticker
* Move, rotate, flip and resize stickers using an intuitive two-finger pinching motion
* Rearrange the stacking order of the stickers
* Save their creations (including autosave when closing the app)
* Reload their creations at any time and continue editing them
* Share their creations with friends and family via email, as well as by saving an image to the iPad’s Photos collection.

Surveillant is a visionary new game with a minimalist design ethic and an old-skool human vs. computer feel. Each level presents a tense spatial challenge, heightened by the threat of the ever watchful CCTV Camera.

The need for stealth is matched perfectly by the subtly ambient audio. The sound of the wind builds as the player ascends and the whine of the laser shifts frequency when the beam strikes different surfaces. With headphones on, the sensation of the beam passing close by is electric enough to raise hairs on the back of your neck! Being spotted will make you jump even on repeated occasions. Music is used sparingly: the sinister chords of the title music, a beautiful ambient loop on the level select screen, and an eerie and hypnotic melody on the ‘Carousel’ level.
