We’ve had lots of comments from our readers that they are having real difficulties downloading these freebies, which rather defeats the object. We’ve got a forum set up for you to post your experiences. Have not been able to download any of the freebies, but have a Dutch iTunes account. If the freebies are not available outside of the UK, it would have been nicer to have found this out when installing the app. iTunes comes up with different excuses, when trying to download the freebies. For The Redbreast I was notified that “This article is being edited/changed. Please try again later.”
Little disappointed for receiving an empty gift from iTunes…

In the danish 12 days of giveaway, I have been able to download the book “The Lion King” today. It must be different in each country?

I havent even been able to download the app as it is imcompatible with my 2nd gen ipod touch even though it was compatible for the past two years

@Jeremy Find out what the free object is each day, search for it on Itunes and it will come up free. You can still download the item onto your computer, or you can download it yourself from your iPod. I have the same problem (2nd gen iPod) , but this helps me get around it. 🙂

If you are experiencing problems with the downloads, try changing the “region format”, under “international” in Settings, to match your local country.

Hey, I am in Spain a the moment but have an Irish iTunes account. On my iPad 2, I was offered a gift of the Redbreast which later turned out to be €6.49. While on iPhone 4S (with the same iTunes account) I was offered a free The Lion King book, which turned to be actually free.

I really want to get this book, but the time it has taken and the number of times I have had to reboot the computer has taken all the fun out of it. This really seems to me a “con”. There must be an easier way to make books available

hi Geoff, I would keep trying, as you’re in the UK, it does take quite a while to download this book but it’s worthwhile in the end.

As the above says, the Danish one today was some Lion King rubbish.
Fortunately, having also a UK account, I could download the Jo Nesbo book (even though a Danish version is available in my local Netto right now) with no problems whatsoever.
It’s easy to set up accounts in whatever country you like, for the free gifts. Just set up a new account (find an address and postcode first, you don’t need to activate by email, so that can be a fake one) and when you get to the ‘add credit card’, bit, click ‘later’, or whatever it is. It means you can’t buy anything, but you can download the freebies – the US store always has free songs each week (Tuesday) and often free tv shows and of course, free apps.
In this case, you don’t need the app. Just add the various 12 Days of Christmas’ to your Facebook stream and they’ll even provide you with a handy link, when a new ‘gift’ is available. You just make sure you’ve logged in with the account you have for the country the iTunes store is in, before you click on the link.

I downloaded after setting up an iTunes account. I was reluctant to give credit card details for free download, but I did in the end and downloaded. However I have been unable to read it. Adobe Digital Editions opens the index, but will not display text. I tried converting it to use on my Kindle, but it is DRM protected. If it can only be read on an Apple device then The Times should says so, as I have wasted a lot of time. I could have saved mu self a lot of trouble and bought it for £3.99 from Amazon
