As we’ve been reporting for some time now, Instagram is porting to Android and following co-founder of Instagram, Kevin Systroms comments over SXSW weekend, it is going to happen very soon.
Systrom demoed the app briefly on stage at SXSW, not the full walk-through as they’re not quite ready for that yet. Mike Krieger, co-founder, commented that ‘folks over at Android have been pretty impressed with the way the app leverages the platform. Its taken a while to come to Android simply because the company was focused on scaling on iOS", he told TechCrunch.
When asked why it has taken so long to create Instagram for Android, he went on "I don’t think it took so long. We just had priorities. Had we tried to be both on Android and iPhone at the same time, it would’ve been tough to innovate in the way that we have".
Certainly with 27 million registered users and reportedly valued at $500 million no one can seriously mock their business model. We can’t wait to put the Android version of Instagram through its paces. Make sure you check back for that…
