Top 5 Apps For iPhone Photography – Photo App Lounge With Lindsey Thompson
Welcome to our new Photo App Lounge section of theappwhisperer.com. This is a very small area on our site where we ask highly accomplished iPhone photographers what their top five photo apps are and why. Kicking us off today is Lindsey Thompson. We previously interviewed Lindsey in our A Day In The Life series, if you missed that you can read it here. Not only that, we have also published some of her fantastic iPhone photography tutorials too, if you have missed those, you can read them here too.
Lindsey has had work on show in various exhibitions around the world, including the EYE’EM Berlin exhibition, Pixels at the OCCCA, Pixels Los Angeles, ‘Autunno in Musica’ In Italy, the ‘Stuff Bath’ exhibit in Bath (UK), The Lunchbox Gallery in Miami, as well as three images digitally displayed in New Zealand. Last Autumn, Lindsey had eight images shown and, subsequently, sold for the Kids Co. charity at the Create hive exhibition in Battersea park London, a project Lindsey describes as ‘ a real thrill to visit and be involved in’.
We caught up with Lindsey in between shoots and asked her what her top five photo apps are, this is what she said…

Number 1 – Camera+
This is an essential shooting and processing app for me, particularly for my macro photography. It’s fast, reliable and offers great shooting controls. For editing it has plenty of fantastic color effects and tools. The captured images are stored within the app which can then be viewed and saved to your phone later. It is capable of holding a huge amount of images at the best quality. (I recently reached 800 images before it started to become sluggish).
Number 2 – Lomora 2
This is a go-to for shooting. It could possibly be described as the stroppy teenager of photo apps and can be temperamental depending on light conditions, but on a good light day the color results are amazing. I have just three films I use regularly, but the effects on each of these can change with different light, so I don’t feel limited using only these. My favorite films are R/B, B/W and Redscale.
Number 3 -TouchRetouch
A must-have tool for cleaning and removing unwanted areas on images. I use this app for many reasons; whether it’s removing specs of dirt or dust from macro captures, cleaning unwanted scratches from texture apps or cloning entire fences, it’s an incredibly powerful tool. If you are impatient when it comes to watching app tutorials (like myself) this is one to watch, it is incredibly informative for discovering the apps full potential.
Number 4 – ScratchCam FX
This has been one of my favorite ‘texture’ apps for a long time now, I particularly love the scratch and color layers and the option to turn off the layers you do not need. I use this app regularly also for just making color adjustments. Occasionally I use touch retouch to customize the scratch effect to make some less obvious (but only because I use it SO much!) 🙂
Number 5 – iLoader
A wonderful upload app for sharing your creations to Facebook. Whether it is just one image or a whole holiday album, this app speeds through them in seconds. It allows you to create albums, insert titles, tag and rotate. It’s also great for uploading videos.
