Hipstamatic Releases New Tintype SnapPak
This is a brand new in-app purchase from the developers of Hipstamatic. It comes complete with the Tinto 1884 Lens, the D-Type Plate Film and C-Type Plate film for $0.99/£0.69.
Ryan Dorshorst, Co-founder of Hipstamatic describes the creation of this new pack, thus: “I’m super stoked for us to release the new Tintype SnapPak, and wanted to give you all a little insight into how it works. The team has been obsessed over the last few months with tintype photography, so Aravind (our creative director) and I sat down recently and tried to figure out how we could bring it to Hipstamatic.
Some of the key components with tintypes are extremely shallow depth of field as well as an eerie and surreal focus on the eyes. We’ve written some pretty complex processing and are using iOS’s face detection technology in order to create this very specific focus on the face and eyes (though it also works great when shooting things other than people). This is all part of the new Tinto 1884 Lens.
From there we moved on to developing the films, and for these we were specifically inspired by the rich black and whites of daguerreotypes and also the tradition of hand-painted photos that was common before color photography was more prevalent and economical. From this inspiration we built the D-Type Plate Film and the C-Type Plate Film.
Processing Time: The technology and design behind this SnapPak is by far our most complex to-date. Therefore, it takes a bit longer to process these prints than when using our other lenses and films. We hope you’ll be okay with this, because the results are absolutely stunning, and, we think, worth the time”.
This SnapPak requires the latest version of Hipstamatic, if you haven’t upgraded or even downloaded it yet, go here to do so.
