Mobile Photographer Interview – A Day In The Life Of Ginger Lucero – One Very Talented Individual
Welcome to our very exciting column on theappwhisperer.com. This section entitled “A Day in the Life of…” is where we take a look at some hugely influential, interesting and accomplished individuals in the mobile photography world… people that we think you will love to learn more about.
This is our eighty second installment of the series. If you have missed our previous interviews, please go here. Today we are featuring Ginger Lucero. We have been impressed with the quality of images that Ginger creates for a long time here at theappwhisperer and her photographs are often featured in our Flickr Group Showcase. Ginger describes herself as a homemaker and mother of two that’s been engaged for 16 years. When Ginger is not making beautiful art, she enjoys music, sarcasm and spending time with her family. She explains that she does not have favorite things but enjoys reading, writing poetry but of course, her iPhone.
You can find all the links to the apps used or mentioned at the end of this article.

First Things First…

Joanne – Let’s start at the beginning of the day, how does your day start?
Ginger – My day starts with me sending my kids off to school. Then it’s time for house chores. But my day can vary depending on what is needed of me that day from others around me, not including my kids.
Golden Hour…

Joanne – Do you like to head out and take photographs early on?
Ginger – I don’t have any particular time that I like to go shooting. It’s all done in the moment. But before sunset is very appealing in the summertime.
Photographer vs. Mobile Photographer

Joanne – How did the transition from traditional photographer to iPhoneographer develop? (pardon the pun)
Ginger – My passion for Photography started with iPhoneography. I can’t recall really caring for, or giving any thought of it before this.
New Apps…
© Ginger Lucero – “That Day In Santa Fe” – Apps: Native, ProCamera, KitCam, and Camera Awesome
Joanne – Do you like to download new iPhoneography apps regularly?
Ginger – It all depends on what the app has to offer. If it’s something that has special quality to it, then yes. A lot of times it seems the apps are the same, or they do the same thing for that matter. I like to download apps that have more to offer than just filters.
Updates…
© Ginger Lucero – “The Passing Storm” – Apps: Native, Camera+, CameraBag2, Diptic and PicGrunger
Joanne – How often do you update your existing apps?
Ginger – Constantly! I love being able to update an app to see what’s new.
Location, Location, Location…
©© Ginger Lucero – “Some Days Are Just Like That” – Apps: KitCam, Glaze and Photoforge2
Joanne – Where’s your favorite place in the world for a shoot?
Ginger – That’s a tough one? I can’t say that I’ve been enough places to give a comparison. So unfortunately i’ll just have to skip this one.
Tools Of The Trade…
© Ginger Lucero – “Don’t Make A Sound” – Apps: ProCamera, Wordfoto, Image blender, MonoVu
Joanne – Do you also use iPhoneography tool apps, such as The Photographer’s Ephemeris?
Ginger – No I do not. I might have to look into it.
Favorite Apps…

Ginger – Hipstamatic, ProCamera, Camera Awesome and KitCam

Frequency…
© Ginger Lucero – “Days Go By” – Apps: Native, KitCam, Image blender, Snapseed and Camera Awesome
Joanne – Do you take photographs with your iPhone everyday?
Ginger – I don’t take pictures everyday, but it is nice having a camera easily accessible should the moment pop up.
Favorite Subjects…
© Ginger Lucero – “With My Back Against The Wall” – Apps: Native, KitCam, Decim8, Image blender and Snapseed
Joanne – What are your favorite subjects?
Ginger – I like trees, nature, self portraits along with many other subjects. My favorite things always change, I tend to get bored easily if everything is always the same. Variety is key.
Teaching…
© Ginger Lucero – “With My Back Against The Wall 2” – Apps: Native, KitCam, Image blender, Snapseed, and Camera Awesome
Joanne – How did the teaching side come along?
Ginger – I’m a person of trial and error. I think the best way to learn is by making mistakes, and learning from them. Also asking is a great way to learn. Having a community like iPhoneart.com, where you can ask questions is helpful. Everyone there is so nice and willing to help.
Top Five Tips…
© Ginger Lucero – “Morning Serenade” – Apps: Native, Filterstorm and Camera Awesome
Joanne – What are you top five tips for iPhoneography?
Ginger;
1. Shoot what YOU feel, not what you think others would like to see.
2. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re wrong. Different strokes for different folks. Not everyone will like what you shoot, or what you create for that matter, and that’s okay. Remember you are the one that should like it, after all you are the artist.
3 Don’t be afraid to experiment. You never know, you just might discover a new technique that you absolutely adore.
4 When in doubt, ask. There are so many people in the iphoneography world eager and willing to help.
5. Take a break. We all human, right? We tend to get tired, maybe even bored or uninspired. If you find yourself in this position it may be time for a little break, let the mind recoup and refresh. Sometimes it’s better not to try so hard.
Editing…
© Ginger Lucero – “Nature’s Kiss” – Apps: Hipstamatic, Image blender and Camera Awesome
Joanne – Do you edit images on your iPhone or do you prefer to do that on a desktop/laptop?
Ginger – I do all my editing on my iPhone, its the only desktop that i’ve ever known.
Videography…
© Ginger Lucero – “Judgement Day In Santa Fe” – Apps: KitCam, Image blender and Camera Awesome
Joanne – Do you enjoy videography with your iPhone?
Ginger – I did see a time-lapse video made with an iPhone that seemed pretty neat. But I myself, have never tried it.
The Future of Mobile Photography…
© Ginger Lucero – “This Is Where It All Begins” – Apps: KitCam, Glaze and Photoforge 2
Joanne – Where do you see the future of iPhone photography?
Ginger – Sitting side by side next to Photography. There will be classes you’ll be able to take to learn more, it’s happening now; workshops and such. It’s only a matter of time before it’s as common as photography.
Popularity…
© Ginger Lucero – “Inner City” – Apps: ProCamera, Tiny Planet, Camera+, Old Photo Pro and Image blender
Joanne – What do you think is the most popular area of iPhoneography?
Ginger – There are so many different types on iPhoneography photos to narrow this down, so I would have to say it all has to do with a persons particular taste.
Where in The World?
© Ginger Lucero – “My My, Those Eyes” – Apps: Hipstamatic, Pixlromatic, Superimpose and MonoVu
Joanne – Do you think it’s country specific, are some nations more clued up?
Ginger – No way! It’s everywhere. Slowly but surely, the word is spreading, people are becoming aware of what this device is capable of. They themselves, are telling others. Word of mouth goes a long way.
iPhone 5…
